Extremely tough to find, I only remember seeing maybe 15-20 on e-bay over the past 2-3 years.

I have two - a Frank Frisch graded SGC 40 that looks much nicer, and a common with the same grade. They are exceedingly tough and very underrated IMO. I have seen more E107s for sale in the past year than I have V89s...

Just wanted to make a relative point about this issue, has anyone documented this date to be 100% correct?

The William Paterson hockey cards are the exact same size and were issued in 1923-24 and 1924-25(smaller size). The first year of issue was a redemption program for a pair of skates if someone sent the full set in. Holes were punched and dates were stamped on the back for cards that were redeemed...we can learn alot from similar issues.

Would the baseball be issued two years prior to the hockey in Canada. You'd think they would have issued the hockey first as they usually did with other issues.

The original wrapper was found and thought you guys would like to see it. Wouldn't it be great to see what the Baseball League Bar looked like!?

Awesome wrapper. Now I can impress my friends by telling them I no longer collect cards, rather, I collect photogravures. It sounds much classier.

The earlier Paterson hockey set had a chase card (Corbeau) while the second set did not. That may imply that the Paterson baseball set came later since it also doesn't have a chase card. Joe Oeschger is pictured with the NY Nationals. He was with Boston from 1919-1923. This dates the set sometime after his trade to NY on 11-12-23, so the baseball set is probably 1924. Wille Kamm is pictured with Chicago; he didn't debut until 1923.

Another oddity of the set is, despite being a Canadian issue, it has many obscure plyers from the New York National team. John R. Watson (traded to NY on 6-7-23, further evidence of a 1924 set), Frank Snyder, Hugh McQuillen and Jack Bentley and a total of 12 Giants appear in a set of only 50 cards. Could there be a NY angle to the set? The mystery of the two different shades has never been answered either.

I am still looking for photogravures of Marquard, Shawkey and Scott if there are any extras floating around.

That Cobb doesn't look trimmed. It appears as if it slipped under the SGC custome made holder. It's happened to me a fews times, and it sucks.

I figured that the 1922 date was off, just like the Maple Crispette. Hockey usually came first in Canada...

Because the Bert Corbeau is so scarce, now were talking super scarce and 15 grand for that card is reasonable. The wrapper is worth at least 5 grand.

The first hockey issue of Paterson 1923-24 had 40 cards.
Paterson's second issue of hockey was in 1924-25 went to 60 cards.
My feeling on this issue is that there were alot of complaints by customers that the Corbeau couldn't be had and with this Paterson changed the program and just added more cards to the set to compensate for the lack of the chase card. Plus the cards were narrower, so a sheet of 40 turned into a sheet of 60, no doubt.

I remember there being a set or near-set of V89s auctioned off in Masto in 12/2004 for $10-12k.
