| T210 Pleasures

Posted By: Bill Stone One of the delights in collecting the T210 series is finding out the stories behind the players. I recently acquired a large group of T210's and just for fun I randomly picked out one to research. It was Jackson of Lynchburg ( Series 2). |

Posted By: Jay It would be a great project to put together short bios of everyone in the set. I bet you could get help on the board and you could do it by series to break things up. |

| T210 Pleasures

Posted By: David McDonald While trying to find the Charlotte Observer article about collecting T206s (before Robert K. re-posted it) I stumbled across this page from the Greensboro NC History Museum. Has to do with Walter Hammersley who pitched in the Carolina Association and was on a T210-5 Old Mill card and a T209 Contentnea b/w card. Any body able to post either of the cards for a looksee? |

| T210 Pleasures

Posted By: Dwight I have made an attempt to research backgrounds of players in the T210 series 5. Lots of stuff out there on Hammersly. He apparently was a person who appreciated history, as did his family. A number of his missives to family were preserved and many are on display at the Greensboro museum, along with his uniform, etc. For numerous other players in the series, it's a fishing expedition and zip info to be found. I contacted the hometown Chamber of Commerce of one player who played several years and made it to the high minors...they never heard of him. I told them he's buried in their city cemetery. I knew more about him than they did. Also wrote the hometown newspaper... and didn't get a response. |

Posted By: Jay Bill--That looks great. If you can find any career stats that would make it perfect. Someone (not me) should coordinate the people working on the bios. When you guys finish you can post them at a web site or sell photocopies of the write up. If someone is really handy with one of the printing programs maybe images of cards can be linked with the bios. If you cannot gather images of particular players I can help you out. |

| T210 Pleasures

Posted By: J.McMurry I've been researching the players from my hometown of Greenville and it's been a blast. Most of the players from this set I dont believe made it out of the minors. I have found SABR's minor league roster list to be quite helpful as it cross references players to other teams they played for so that you can track their careers. As for the Greenville players I found a interesting tidbit of trivia involving Joe Jackson and Ivy Wingo, who both played for the Greenville Spinners. |

| Series 8

The Chattanooga players of series 8 are my "pets." I love researching them. Al Demaree is in this "subseries." While many of you are familiar with Demaree from his days with the Giants, he was also a world-class cartoonist for 30 years following his baseball career. You've seen his work on the '38 Goudeys, R304 die cuts and R332 Schutter-Johnson's to name a few. He was also a sports cartoonist for The Sporting News. With the baseball career and the 30+ years of ink slinging, it came as a shock to learn Al died broke and alone in LA. He isn't even in a marked grave. |
