Default personal collecting questions

Posted By: Jason L

1. What is your focus today, in collecting?
**I have exactly 16 different Sub-collection focal points which I like to attend to, according to budget, opportunity and desire. This has proven to be a very sound method to maximize my out of pocket expenses while justifying a focused collection of otherwise unrelated baseball memorabilia!
Some of the more prominent sub-collections include family items, vintage Cubs tobacco cards, HOF rookies, and modern player collections including Ozzie, Kirby, Ron Cey, and the Rickey.

2. What are the 3 cards you need most?
**I would love to have the funds for a solid Leaf Musial rookie, a nice 1934 Goudey Greenberg, and a good looking Gehrig, regardless of issue.

3. Do you like to trade, buy, or a combination when you do acquire your needs?
**Generally buy, but trades are fun when they work out.

4. Has the economy forced you to sell things you wouldn't have otherwise?
**No. Neither my spending pace nor dollar levels have ever been what you would call, signficant. For instance, I have yet to participate in an auction house event. I find those to be terribly intimidating, for some reason. Perhaps it is the buyer's premium concept that I find so ridiculously insulting to my intelligence. As an aside, I have found that with funds drying up, relatively speaking, i am having a great deal of fun turning my attention to doing more baseball research.

5. What is your absolute favorite series, why?
Too tough to call, honestly. But if pressed, I think the early Bowmans (1950 and 51) because of their simplicity and artwork. Pre-war, it would be the T206s for the same reasons.

6. How do you enjoy acquiring your cards most- Ebay, auction, BST, shows etc...?
**Shows are the most fun. Ebay is the easiest and cheapest, but seems to rob me of some of the experience.

7. What do you do for a living, how old are you and where do you live?
**As soon as I figure these out, I will certainly let you all in on the answers!
