Never really paid attention to these, but what a funny thing to say on the back "was authenticated by a third party authenticator." Who was this mysterious third party authenticator? Does it not matter so long as someone says it's good?

I'm out of touch with SP Legendary Cuts, but I'd say about $3,000 or so.

Matt,
I'd say that is fallout from the UD fiasco from a couple years back. Some sorta CYA in case they get sued, they're dumping the responsibility on someone else. |

Guess all this advice from the board was not paid attention to.
This card with that huge smear is now on ebay with a $9500 BIN. |

I still think the card is worth closer to $1000 or so. I am well aware of the fact that lots of these 1of1 special "cut" cards sell for huge premiums, but I would have to believe the quality of the signature matters somewhat and this is, unfortunately, not a high quality signature. The smear really detracts from it.

Richard, They must be valuing the smear at around 5-6 thousand. ![]() Very nice pull but probably worth something considerably south of the B-I-N. Last edited by HRBAKER; 06-12-2009 at 12:21 PM. |

The detraction of the smudge is true. A positive quality, however, is that, unlike many of these cut auto cards, you can see the entire the entire signature.

The "market" for these cards has always struck me as very, very strange.
If a Babe Ruth cut is worth $3000, why is it worth $9000, when it is placed on a manufactured card, with a scarcity that is delibrately created by the manufacturer. And the manufacturers have little or no regard for the quality of the autograph, I have seen signatures that appear on these cards with letters missing, tops and bottoms of letters cut off and other things wrong with the card such as ghost signed signatures and signatures of players paired up with the picture of another player. As an autograph dealer, I know my customers would not be buying autographs with letters missing, etc. Last edited by RichardSimon; 06-12-2009 at 04:54 PM. Reason: additional info added |

Richard,
Maybe it just goes to show that P.T. Barnum was a genius. |
