It's really no different from the cut autographs Topps, Upper Deck, et al issue. They take an autographed Perez-Steele postcard that may sell for $25, cut it and imbed it in one of their cards...suddenly collectors start drooling uncontrollably all over themselves over it. Next thing you know, the cut auto card sells for several hundred dollars.

It's completely insane, but there seems to be no stopping it.
