The one you pictured is a wirephoto. Telephoto and wirephoto are synonymous, and 5x7 is a common size for wirephotos. The vast majority of wirephotos are vintage to the date of the image subject (they're current event photos) but don't have first generation images (as you noticed). Wirephotos are collected and have financial value. They were the photos 'wired' by news services (AP, UP, etc) to newspapers and magazines. A newspaper's old archives will contain both originals and wirephotos. So it makes sense someone offering you a news photo collection that has originals and wirephotos mixed together.
