Good tips from Scott on how to research the ticket...and I'm glad you're trying to learn the full story!
One part we can eliminate, however...the Boston Red Sox played Detroit in Boston on September 9, 1941 so the "Red Sox" team that played the Monarchs was likely a local team. The fact that the ticket says only "Red Sox" would imply they were well-known to Lafayette residents. That shouldn't discourage you, though...sometimes the rosters of those local teams might include some surprises! One thing I would be interested to understand is how a small town was able to illuminate the field for a night game in 1941...perhaps the Monarchs had a traveling light system? The Lafayette or Tippecanoe County historical society or library should be your next move.
