Jon, the email message for being outbid is enabled by default (can be disabled here:
Members Area->My Account->Mail Preferences.
As far as getting an email when you place a bid, that doesn't happen right now, but is something that we can add if you think it is helpful.

I think everything looks pretty great right now, but I'd prefer to see a more prominent message about there being a reserve or moving the message up to the bidding box similar to where you have placed the minimum bid message. Having the note below the end time makes it pretty easy to overlook.
