An awesome baseball player and even better person.
As a kid growing up in Canada in the late 70's-early 80's, I had the opportunity to watch Gary Carter play the game the way it is supposed to be played. In Dick Williams' book "No More Mr. Nice Guy", he describes his great admiration for "The Kid". And for the record, compliments did not flow easily from Mr Williams. I sometimes get upset with some people's notion that Carter was "overrated", or that his stats make him a less-worthy Hall of Famer. But if the naysayers had the opportunity to watch him play during his time in Montreal, they would never question his greatness. So sad that he had to go through cancer, and that we lost him so soon.
