Drysdale used to take extra glee in knocking Willie down every chance he got.
Both Don and Willie were all smiles in this photo shoot. I wonder if they were all that cordial behind the scenes? Hmmm...

Here is a exerpt from Nolan Ryan's great book entitled "Kings of the Hill" with Mickey Herskowitz:

"It is part of baseball lore that Willie Mays came to dread hitting against Don Drysdale. As a measure of respect for Willie's power and consistency. Don threw at him a good deal and seemed to take great pleasure in doing so. The cleaning bill that Mays rang up in the years he faced Drysdale must have been substantial."
