1903 National League Composite Photo
I recently purchased a box of newspaper archive photographs from a local auction. Included was this photo of the 1903 Horner composite. I was wondering if anyone knows the location of the original.

I have never seen an original of the 1903 Horner NL composite, and until I saw the photo you just posted, never even saw a repro. So this is the first confirmation I have seen that the composite, though always theorized to exist, does in fact exist. Thanks so much for posting!

How Sweet is that! How large is the photo? Looks like upper left is a little blurry but otherwise really neat photographic evidence of a fantastic piece.
Nice pickup. |

These were cut from a Horner team composite. Not sure of year.

Unfortunately, the photo is only 8 x 10 and is blank on the back. Most of the other pics have stamps on the back that indicate they came from the "Examiner reference library" and date from the 40s and 50s. One file contains copies of Geo. Burke team photos of the Cubs and White Sox of the 30s and early 40s,so I am thinking this is a Chicago newspaper file.

I will try to figure out how to post a larger picture so you can see more detail. Meanwhile, here is another pic from the archive. Dated Aug 25, 1958. "Examiner School All-stars in N.Y." with a high school star named Santo, third from the left.

I have seen the original of that composite. (Actually, I seem to remember knowing of two of them.) One was in a display at the National a year or two ago. The composite itself was pretty large and an incredible piece. I'll have to see if I can find more info about it.

Like Corey said, this is the first time I've seen a pic of the NL one (Leon's AL composite is amazing!)
There are many team Horner composites out there (like the cut out pieces posted), but this is the first time I've seen a pic of the entire NL one. |

Ah... I missed that it was the NL composite. I was thinking of the AL composite. Sorry for the confusion.
