| PSA 7 or 9(OC)?

This might be a silly question. I know people see the "OC" qualifier and think nearly miscut, but when OC is applied to a 9, the centering can be passable, just not on the level of a full 9. I also know the auto-response people give to qualifier grades is that it drops the overall grade by 2, which I find to be an overgeneralization. With that in mind... Assuming the cards have the same centering (not an eyesore), which would you rather have for your PC, a PSA 7 or a PSA 9(OC)? I take the latter. |

I do not collect graded cards because I like to have my sets in binders, but one of the two 52 Mantle variations I have is a PSA 8 OC ( my other Mantle is in lesser condition). I have seen some really nice 6s that are certainly better centered than my 8, but would not take one of them over mine so far. But, I am not as hung up on centering as others

For what it's worth, it the centering is slightly off of a PSA 9, it wouldn't get a 9(OC), it would get a straight 8.

| Gehrig

"imperfect" centering aside (to those whom it truly matters - I'm not one of them IF the card is as nice as the example you've shown) that's a freakin' gorgeous Gehrig - myself, and possibly many others - would love to own such a great-looking Gehrig! p.s. - I know the question was re: the technical grade, but IMO that's a beautiful card no matter the number on the slab. I have one 9(OC) in my collection, a '73 Willie Mays. I haven't thought about it much, but I'd rather have that grade than a 7, mainly because I like having the information that the card is basically pack fresh. It's not a big deal to me, but that's my preference. Andy

I'd rather not have the card be that far OC. So I would probably pass if I were looking for the card, and perhaps sell regardless of how it was graded. RayB

If it's the exact same card? I'd rather have the label without the qualifier. With that said, I do own one 9OC:

I'll take the PSA 9OC, assuming the eye appeal is decent. |

| OC for me I would actually take and 8 OC over a 7! Centering really has no meaning to me but I collect off center and miscut cards.

| OC's vs 2 grades lower

It a preference thing for sure, and non-qualifier cards are more marketable, but I agree with someone else who said I like "pack-fresh", so I would take the OC's every time. I have a different view of MC's, because that to me changes the eye appeal of the card. If you've got some great OC stars for sale - send them my way! |

If it's the same card I would rather have a 9 OC than an off center card in a straight 7 holder. Although unless it was a big card thats hard to find, like that yellow Gehrig, I probably wouldn't seek out either unless the deal was too good to pass up.
