Default Frivolous musical quiz with no prize:

What song of the classic rock era (1970s, basically) refers to "baseball cards"?

That's it, just the phrase, nothing else.

I've had this song stuck in my head for two days and am hoping to exorcise it this way.

PS: Of course there may be more than one such song, and you're more than welcome to name any that evoke our great hobby with their lyrics.

Tim, the song I recall that mentioned baseball cards was "OLD DAYS", by Chicago, released in April, 1975. Good song, from 50 years ago. --- Brian Powell

Default Brian nailed it in one!

Chicago's "Old Days" was the one I was thinking of.

"Old days
Good times I remember
Fun days
Filled with simple pleasures

Drive-in movies
Comic books and blue jeans
Howdy doody
Baseball cards and birthdays

Take me back
To a world gone away
Memories
Seem like yesterday..."

But "The Angel" by the Boss is equally a winner:

"The angel rides with hunchback children
Poison oozing from his engine
Wieldin' love as a lethal weapon
On his way to hubcap heaven
Baseball cards poked in his spokes
His boots in oil, he's patiently soaked
The roadside attendant nervously jokes
As the angel's tires strokes his precious pavement..."

Apart from baseball-themed novelty stuff like "Willie, Mickey and the Duke" (which doesn't actually mention cards specifically) are there others?

It doesn't mention cards, but "Centerfield" by John Fogerty is a great baseball song! (And of course "Mrs. Robinson" by S&G)

It's from 2002, but the Mark Wills song "1970 Something" is a good one and references baseball cards.....

I saw Star Wars at least eight times
Had the Pac-Man pattern memorized
And I've seen the stuff they put inside Stretch Armstrong, yeah

I was Roger Staubach in my back yard
Had a shoebox full of baseball cards
And a couple of Evel Knievel scars
On my right arm
