Topps Bricking - 94-03?

As I continue to make my way through Topps' regular issue research, I've come upon the 1994 set.

To my memory, this is the earliest set to suffer from bricking when sets or packs are opened years or decades after issuance.

Anyone have any bricking memories of older sets? To my mind, there is something distinctive about the feel of Topps sets beginning on '94 - even fresh out of the pack in 1994, there was a friction between the cards that made thumbing through them quickly a problem.

This same feature/feel, to my recollection, extends right up through 2003 - 10 total sets. I have experienced bricking or that rough friction upon opening product during, and ONLY during that time frame. Nothing from 2004 onward (though admittedly my experience with the last 20 sets is nowhere near as extensive as those that came before).

So I ask you - does anyone have bricking stories for Topps' base sets outside of the 1994-2003 time frame? Can anyone offer a more technical explanation of that surface 'feel' I mention?
