Ted, if I recall, the Athletics were not the Athletics until after the turn of the century. Late 19th century -- Quakers or even Phillies? |

I think they were the Quakers but used the nickname Phillies back then -- much like the Highlanders were the 'Yankees.' |

The Philadelphia entry in the National League (Andrews' team) was known as the "Quakers" from 1883 through 1889. Starting in 1890 they were known as the "Phillies." |
