Ball players that came by their nicknames honestly
Posted By: Patrick McMenemy
I picked up my first E137 last night. It's a 1915 Zeenut of "Tubby" Spencer w/o coupon. After viewing his card, I know that he came by his nickname honestly. Who said stripes make you look thinner?....It didn't work for the Babe Ruth or Tubby Spencer. |

Thanks for sharing Leon. Those ladies are certainly not Virginia Slims. |

I don't know Patrick, but I think Tubby may have gone on a diet, he looks a little bigger in his 1913 Zeenut. Either that or the guy cropping the 1915 was a little generous. |

I always thought then name James Leslie "Hippo" Vaughn made me crack up. He sorta was big I guess for his day. |

Not pre-war and I don't know if he could be considered "portly", but one look at Walt Williams and one could see thst he came by his nick-name "No Neck" honestly. |
