Default New Acquisitions Thread

Seems like these threads die each month after a few posts, so why not a thread that is not time limited?

@ Exhibitman -- Good idea on the general thread. And I love the Lemon et al. cards!

the '51 parkie howe is great! been trying to find a low grade one for signing but they're still too expensive.

the roy below is ready to be cracked out for signing:

got some great ttm's and a durant. lindros from canada and forsberg all the way from sweden.

^^^ Awesome sig on that Stevie Y!

This one still has to make it through the mail to me,
but I couldn't wait to share a scan with the fellow puckheads .

The market must be down on hockey cards in general, because I
was amazed at how low this went today (no complaints, just surprised
considering where my snipe was set). These don't come up for auction
very often...

Default Mr Hockey

Two of my favorites! I picked up the Howe from Pete and the Gretzky from Ebay, not an OPC, but the Howe set me back some.

Dryden is a difficult signature to obtain. Got this one via a friend who does charity work with his wife. The Orr is unique--I have never seen another. He used to own a small chain of pizza parlours in southern Ontario, and this was a limited giveaway, I think.

it's nice to see some hockey cards. it's a dying sport in the states but at least the fanbase is loyal. i'm not sure if translates to collecting tho. i've been a fan since the early 90's so that's the only reason why i collect.

Hockey was my favorite sport in the '90's. The Wings are my team, and their rivalry with the Avs was awesome. Bettman killed hockey for me in '04. I tried to watch after that, but it wasn't the same. When ESPN didn't renew their contract, hockey was dead to me. The only time I see hockey on tv is on Versus, and I'd rather hear my parents having sex than listen to Pierre McGuire.

I still collect hockey. Mainly prewar type cards, HOF rookies, and '79's. but I won't touch modern stuff. I don't even know any of the players anymore

What do you collect?

i do the prewar baseball, but getting into signed rookies of all 4 sports. i love the mid 80's hockey rookie cards tho...lemieux/yzerman/roy etc. they were big stars by the time i got into hockey.

picked up 3 more, only sad(?) thing is i seem to be picking up mostly the topps cards, not opc.

Thanks! Good luck with your search -- I'd imagine this card would look nice inside a clean SGC holder.

Very happy to have picked up these two Howe's. The picture is a wire photo which was used for the 63 Parkie on the right. The colors on the Parkhurst are much more vivid in person!

Gents,

I proudly share with you what is likely my most amazing hockey pickup ever...this is a one-of-a-kind (AFAIK) 1907-08 Alfred G. Pittaway Studios Cabinet of Tommy Phillips - one of the greatest players of early hockey, and an inaugural member of the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1945. The image quality is stunning, with Phillips in his Ottawa team sweater...and there are no cards of Phillips:

Default 1971 Bic Maxi Pac Bobby Orr & 1956 Power Play Postcard Jean Beliveau

I won the Beliveau on ebay thinking it was a regular sized postcard, it's actually oversized and measures 8-1/4" wide x 6" high.

i'm very happy to have these 2 cards in my collection, two of the more popular cards when i was growing up. also knocked off a few more OPC signed rookies. these days i'm genuinely more excited picking up a signed forsberg than a t206 hof'er.
