Calling Ty Cobb Experts
A co-worker of mine knew I collected memorabilia and asked what I thought of this ball. The story behind it is that he purchased it from a man in his 90s that allegedly witnessed Ty Cobb signing it. I know nothing about Ty Cobb autographs but told him it looked forced and not like a natural autograph, but hey he was old and it's not easy signing a baseball so thought I'd ask for your opinion.
Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks! |

Not a Ty Cobb expert by any means, but I wouldn't be comfortable investing more than $20 into that ball.

I figured $15 for the ball, $5 for the sentimental value of pitching it to my kid

I didn't know they had magic markers back in Cobb's day

Well, you have either a lying co-worker or a lying 90-yr old man. One or the other was/is trying to screw someone.

Did Ty Cobb sign using his middle initial, other than with checks? I don't know enough about that, but it just seemed off to me for whatever reason.

He may have been old and to non ball players it isnt easy signing a ball but if you do it a few thousand times im sure it becomes alot easier. By 1958 I am pretty sure Tyrus got the hang of it. From what I understand Tyrus had alot of drunken days but dont ever think he was that drunk to sign that horrible looking ball. LOL

There is also the matter of this signature being about 300% larger than known authentic examples.
