Finally dug out the Baseball Digest that has Garvey. I couldn't bring myself to cut one out!

It's still a mystery to me where the other one came from originally, although I am guessing Sporting News.

In case anyone cares…

Bringing this one back to life because I finally found out where the original crossword came from. I checked the back and it had an article about Andy Messersmith. I was able to determine from that information, the author and the partial title of the article, where it was published! Not sure why I didn't think of this before.

I was right all along. It is in fact from The Sporting News from 1976. I have the full issue with unmarked crossword on the way as of today, after confirming with a seller that it is in this particular issue and unmarked!

TSN seems to be a bit harder to find in bulk for cheap compared to Baseball Digest, so I won't be compiling the checklist like I did with Baseball Digest but I would love to know how many different subjects appear in this type of crossword in TSN. Anyone have complete runs from the 70s and some time to re-read them? The only TSNs I have feature Garvey/Dodger covers and are buried somewhere right now.

Love a good mystery and score one for the internet again!

I care... Love the odd-ball stuff and even though I'm not a Garvey collector I like a good mystery. Glad to hear that you tracked it down. Really liked this thread as well so I liked to view it once again.

I have a few advertising cutouts that I have (that are in very POOR shape) that I'd like to ultimately get better examples one day. Just have to track them down, like you, to find out what issue they are from.

Thanks for sharing...
