August pickups
Got a nice vintage Harridge ball signed by 3 Indians. After looking at it, I realize it's probably quite rare. Can anyone guess why??

August Pick up
I picked up this vintage 8x10 portrait from the National yesterday. I have never seen another Ted Williams portrait in plain clothes. I did some research on Jules Pierlow, and it looks like he did some work for the Sporting News on occasion (if anyone else has any information on Jules, please let me know). Could do without the inscription "To June," but love that the splendid splinter dated it.

Ted
Beautiful photo Andrew! Congrats! The full photo was used on page 29 of the book "teddy ballgame" they gave sporting news credit for it... Maybe they have specific dates as to when it was taken...

I'm embarrassed to admit I don't know who this is. Not a HOFer methinks, but I could be wrong ?

Ted
Got this one in the mail yesterday. 1969 senators opening day program with stub signed by Ted Williams (not a period signature). I think it's pretty neat as the date marks Ted's managerial debut

Not sports but I thought interesting. It's on an 1899 silver certificate.

Nice, Tom. Someday I'll have to pick up a Swanson to go with my favorite Conlon photograph.

Always wanted a Michael Jordan auto. So picked up this flag signed by him and Emmitt Smith, John Elway, Lance Armstrong. Thinking if I ever have the chance maybe I'll try adding more autos of top athletes to it.

You got a great signature from him compared to some of the others he gave. The black squiggle is the autograph he gave one collector at the same show.

Exactly the reason why I would never collect Autographs these guys just don't care what it looks like

There are a bunch of guys who signed very nicely early in their career and then just got worse and worse. Or shorter and shorter. I believe that the earlier type of signature will continue to go up in price while the later one will go down. I try to snag up these early signatures while you can get them at a good price. Manny is one of these players. Frank Thomas is another and McGwire has really shortened his signature in the last few years even for paid autographs. Here are the earlier signatures of each that I would buy up.

Randall,
I don't think I've ever seen a Thomas auto like that. Nice!

I'm pretty sure it was signed before he was drafted. Since the farther back you go the more complete the autograph. Plus all the ones I've seen when he was on the White Sox included his number. Also ball is from 1985-89. Bobby Brown A.L. haiti.

Great examples, Randall! That's a classic example of Big Frank from 1990 and earlier. He signed a ball for me with that signature during Spring Training of 1990. I got his sig at a paid signing in 1991 and his sig had evolved into Fr___ Th___35. By 1991 his popularity had exploded and necessity is the mother of invention I suppose... He abbreviated his sig because of the long lines of people that were waiting to get his autograph. One positive thing that I can tell you though is he was a signing machine during his most popular years. He always showed up at the stadium early prior to the game in Anaheim and would always sign for the fans... Last edited by Scott Garner; 08-14-2015 at 04:10 AM. |

"Vintage" Blue Jays! Drive of '85
This lot takes me back to the Fall of 1985 when I was just 18 and was crazy for the Jays! Wait...I still am
Living in Calgary (North of Montana for those that can't place the city) and only getting back to my hometown Toronto once a year - it is amazing when I can get a Jays fix. Attended 2 almost sold out games last week and on Saturday, I joined by buddy at a Jays-organized, 30-anniversary tribute for the Jays '85 outfield trio of: George Bell, Lloyd "Shaker" Moseby and Jessie Barfield. These guys were joined at the event by other 1985 teammates - Dave Stieb, Willie Upshaw, Tony Fernandez, Cito Gaston, Garth Iorg, Tom Henke, Rance Mulliniks and Buck Martinez. Amazing night of all access mingling, autographs, baseball stories, photos, reminiscing etc. Obtained a tribute program from Saturday's game and got it fully signed by all including Paul Beeston along with a photo and ball with just the 3 outfielders and a few cards and scraps.

Taz,
Nice Cy Young signature . The Glasscock is a good pick up of a future HoFer in my opinion. He is not an easy signature to find in any condition . |

Thanks, real iffy about buying it from Kevin, because of the poor condition, but the price was fair and don't know when/if I would see another one.

For one reason or another, I am prone to drift and lose focus but I am back on my Teddy Ballgame focus and plan to stay on point for a while. The photo is crisp, unlike the somewhat blurry scan but you get the idea.
