Default Football Collecting Goals for 2017

I've been reflecting recently on 2016 as I'm sure many of you have. What football collecting goals did you meet this year and what are your goals for 2017?

Always interested in hearing what people are looking for. Perhaps we can help each other along the way.

I'm focusing hard on completing my run of mainstream, nationally distributed football cards produced between 1888 and 1988 ... 101 years of football cards! I need a couple hundred cards to finish this run up and hope to obtain them this year.

Also focusing on growing my Red Grange and Jim Thorpe collections.

Seeking anything from the 20's related to the Pottsville Maroons

And last but not least, some particular post-war cards that have eluded me:

1. 1950 Topps Felt Back Matthew (Brown color)
2. 1950 Bread for Energy Johnny Lujack (bread label)
3. 1948 Safe-T-Card Lou Gambino, Vic Turyn, Bob Waterfield
4. 1949 Sports Champion Exhibits (blue tints)
5. 1949 Leaf Football wrapper
6. 1955 Topps Football wrapper

My main goal for 2017 is to land the 69 Eskimo pie cappelletti/Livingston card. Either version will do, but sticker is preferred.

Other than that, I'd like to expand my John Hannah master set. My checklist is bigger than PSA's and includes 49 playing era cards. Right now I have 36 of them. A reasonable goal for the next 12 months, I think, is to have 42 of them. Edit to add Hannah needs list:

(if no grade listed, raw is fine)
1974 Patriots team issue
1975 Topps #205 Gillingham/Hannah PSA 9
1978 Slim Jim Disc PSA 8 or 9
1978 Topps #35 PSA 9
1979 Patriots Frito Lay
1980 Topps #230 PSA 10
1981 Patriots Frito Lay
1981 Topps Stickers #34 PSA 10
1981 Topps Stickers #129 PSA 9 or 10
1982 Topps Stickers #159
1982 Topps Stickers - "Coming Soon" back #159 PSA 9 or 10
1983 Topps #330 PSA 10

Oh and I'd like to get most, if not all, of Andre Tippett's basic Topps cards that I don't yet have autographed. Here are the signed Tippett cards I need to complete this and another project:

Basic Topps:

1984 #143 - PSA/DNA certified
1985 #334 - blue Sharpie
1986 #39
1987 #107

1990 #421 - variation: NO disclaimer on back (bottom)
1991 #617

1993 #24

Already have 88, 89, 92 and the other 90 variation

1992 Pro Line Profiles - embossed mfr. autos:

#1 and #6

If you have any of these signed Tippett cards available for trade or sale, please let me know thru PM or email: dbesse27@hotmail.com . Thanks!

Main 2017 goal is to pick up a 1935 Chicle Naguraki in PSA1/Auth to finish off the set.

Other than that, will look to complete my 1959 Topps set (Need about 45 cards) and begin working on the 1967 Topps set.

I would like to pick up 1958 topps Jim brown .
I like 1951 and 1950 bowman and would not mind picking up some stars from this set . I wouldn't mind picking up some rookie from the 60s and 70s . But I don't really have my eye on any specific players .

I primarily collect vintage HOF cards, and modern era Autos/game used cards of HOF'ers. This collection is coming along very well and this coming year I would like to start working on completing a few sets starting with '54 and '55 Bowman....I've also recently fallen in love with the 1948-52 exhibits and would like to pick up more of those.

I'm a raiders fan so always looking to add to/upgrade my raiders HOF collection...in particular Blanda and Upshaw.

I'll still be working on the 1977 Topps Mexican set this year.... and the next.... and the next. Currently up to 151 / 526, I'd like to have more than 40% of the set by the end of 2017.

Easier to list the cards I already have in PSA holders, as eventually the raw cards will all be encased or crossed over. Of the 151, 45 are graded. I have been trying to compile a set with no qualifiers; no gum stains, no off-center or mis-cut cards with minimal printing errors in EX+ condition. 1977 Topps Mexican Set:

26, 27, 35, 46, 48, 65, 92, 100, 101, 111, 120, 132, 139, 177, 180, 192, 198, 200, 220, 267, 270, 274, 281, 283, 285, 290, 305, 325, 343, 356, 360, 363, 379, 390, 402, 410, 415, 422, 452, 460, 476, 484, 494, 510, 523

Always collecting former Central Washington University football players, and local sports history.

CWU Players of interest: Jon Kitna, Mike Reilly (Edmonton Eskimos), and Adam Bighill (BC Lions)

Great stuff, guys! I love reading this stuff.

If you all could edit these posts with card numbers for the ones you need maybe we can all help each other. Post your desired condition as well.

Default The White Football

Trying to finish the 1953 Bowman Football set. I need a little under 30 cards to finish the complete set. Trying to complete it with PSA or SGC in grade 5 or higher and nicely centered.

I need 34 1972 Topps high numbers to complete my Topps run from 1969-2015. I'd like to finish that in 2017, and also finish up my 1968 set. That should be relatively easy. I finished 1956 and 1958 Topps in 2016, so I'd like to finish 1960 (need about 30 cards) Topps and Fleer (need 15 cards). Beyond that, I just want to chip away at all of the other sets from the 50's and 60's.

Default goals

I mostly collect sets that feature or include college players. So I have a couple of tracks to follow this year.

-Complete 1951 Topps Magic
-Complete 1955 Topps All-American
-Continue with big and small 1952 Bowman sub-sets
-Add a couple more Mayos
-Grab anything else that catches my eye

Well, had to adjust my goals for next year. Thanks to Carl's heads up, I snagged a 1950 Bowman Wrapper off eBay. Thanks again, Carl!

Since I was on a roll, tracked down a 1952 Bowman Large wrapper as well.

Still looking for 1949 Leaf and 1955 Topps All-American wrappers.

Keep posting, guys!

Default 2017 goals

My FB goal for the upcoming year is to work on my 1971 Topps FB set quest.

Wait...before you think, that should be easy...I mean that I already have 12 full sets and I am trying to fill up to 20 sets this year. In 2016 I made some nice progress on sets 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17.

I have thousands of these cards and I'll need thousands more before I slow down. I have a lot of the first series cards for the next 4 or 5 sets, but fewer 2nd series cards. Condition is not important, any card will do (ok, I really don't care for writing on the front, especially unauthorized facial hair , horns or glasses that our youth may have drawn on)

Contact me if you have some inexpensive cards numbered above 132 that you'd like to move. I am always buying lots of these!

I have to finish the 51 Bowman set, and I'd like to upgrade some of my 55 Topps AA set.

Then begin the 50 Bowman set if possible...

And, as always, complete my PSA Joe Namath Master Set

I recently purchased a complete mid-grade '65 Topps FB Tallboy set...all SGC graded. Never thought I would own that set! It is one of my all time favorites.

I also purchased a relatively high grade '66 Topps FB partial set, which is 23 commons shy of completion. The one football card goal that I have for 2017 for sure is to finish off this set. It will also be an all graded set. I have 5 cards that I need to send in to SGC and a few PSA slabs that are probably going to get cracked at some point so that those cards can go to SGC for an all SGC set like the '65.

Other than that, I might dive into another 60s FB set. I have several candidates in mind.

edited to add: I also will do some upgrading to my '69 Topps set.

Hi everyone - I love reading these forums, but since I'm primarily a schedule collector, I rarely post.

Still, one of my main sked interests is vintage college football. So, since my heart's with you guys in the Football Cards Forum, I figured I'd toss in my goals as well!

I'm hoping to cross a few more years off my wantlist (all years up to the present, but especially pre-1930) for football schedules for the following schools:

Amherst
Army
Dartmouth
Harvard
Michigan
Middlebury
Notre Dame
Princeton
Williams
Yale

(There are about a dozen other schools I collect too, but those 9 are my top priorities.)

Happy new year to all!
Dan

Dan, my sales territory includes Hanover NH, so I'll keep my eyes out for Dartmouth schedules.

Building off of last year's goals, here are my football collecting goals for 2017.

- Pickup 3 more football HOF Rookie cards, 1 of them will be the 1958 Topps Jim Brown
- Pickup at least 20 new additions to my Buffalo Bills team sets on the PSA Registry (currently 348/460)
- Upgrade 1 item in my All Time Buffalo Bills PSA Set Registry set
- Obtain 2 Joe Ferguson (Bills QB) special card collectibles, preferably unopened packs with him showing on top or Topps Vault type items
- Work on a 2017 football set with my young son - this is my most important goal!

I'm going to start selling my 1955 Topps AA set if anyone is interested in some higher grade '55s (PSA 8-9).

I don't have all the prices listed on the PSA site, but send me a note if you see one you would like a price or picture of.

That's my goal, but if you have a question about a particular one(s), then just send me a note.

Thanks for the requests, guys - you prompted me to get my act together and actually photograph some of my sked collection. I started a new "Football schedules" thread in this forum with some of the pics.

As suggested, I edited my original post to include my John Hannah needs list. Here it is again, for those who don't like to backtrack:

(if no grade listed, raw is fine)

1974 Patriots team issue
1975 Topps #205 Gillingham/Hannah PSA 9
1978 Slim Jim Disc PSA 8 or 9
1978 Topps #35 PSA 9
1979 Patriots Frito Lay
1980 Topps #230 PSA 10
1981 Patriots Frito Lay
1981 Topps Stickers #34 PSA 10
1981 Topps Stickers #129 PSA 9 or 10
1982 Topps Stickers #159
1982 Topps Stickers - "Coming Soon" back #159 PSA 9 or 10
1983 Topps #330 PSA 10

If you have any of these available for sale/trade, please let me know!
