I did note this increase earlier in another thread about Greg Morris cards and the prices realized, but supposedly GM cards are pretty nice and graded by him pretty accurately. Needless to say, I didn't win any of those ones either!
I've won a lot of Greg Morris auctions over the last 6 months for 1958 Topps, 1948 Bowman, and 1974-75 OPC WHA. I've got a lot for really good prices, overpaid for others that I really wanted, and have lost out on some where the prices were shockingly high. It does seem like prices are going up a bit in general but there's something to the fact that this is a seller I know I can trust and who will ship to Canada for very reasonable prices.

Surprisingly often, a card will simply get caught up in a competition between two people who really want it. I was recently in on a 1974-75 OPC WHA card in NR-Mint that was worth about $3.00. I was quite interested in obtaining it, though, so put in a $10 snipe. To my great surprise, I lost out and it went for over $13. Other instances of that card have gone for under $3 in the same grade. So, it can just be a random thing.

The Hogue at $256 was stunning, given all the ink schmack.

The Parnell, Hogue and Maxwell all surprised me. Like I mentioned, they look to be nice cards but I don't ever recall seeing the prices that were realized before.
Hopefully, as I need all 3 cards, these prices won't remain this lofty.

Personally I think the aforementioned "tax refund boost" is completely real and has been happening as long as I can remember. I tend to avoid purchases as much as possible this time of year as everything sells for more as people feel flush with cash.

It will drop down by June 1st and Greg Morris does get a premium as said due to trust.

Ditto, on Greg. I've won a few auctions of raw cards from Greg recently which looked as good (or better) in person than they did in the scan. And FWIW, I was happy with the price and didn't feel I overpaid either. Not '52s though.

Also just look at the price point...whether its a 100 dollar card that sells for 200......yeah its a huge increase..but its still 100 bucks...for some people time is worth more to them then 100 bucks...they know they can get the card in a week or so for less but its not worth it to them.

also for some reason people rather pay 200 at auction for a card that sells for 150 regularly versus paying 200 on a BIN.....for some reason the buyer does not want to feel like a sucker and pay the BIN price but will pay the same thing in an auction as its not a personal buy and sell with a specific seller so the buyer does not feel like a sucker...so im told

when its over a few hundred bucks , i dont think that creates market price on a lone sale or 2....when you see a rookie ruth go up by 100k, then thats more than just convenience....

I have always gotten a nice premium for a decent maxwell. That price does not shock me at all.
