No luck
ok, when I got to the sale 10 minutes after the starting time there was still a line outside of 25 people. By the time i got in all the good stuff was sold. Only autographed bat remaining was a Dante Bichette (he was big with the Colorado Rockies). even that was priced at $95. There were a few stamped bats with names on the barrel...one was a Louisville Slugger full size souvenir model with Al Kaline stamped in it. I think they wanted $45.
The only HOFer I saw with a real signature remaining was a ball signed by McCovey and they wanted $125; PSA book value is a lot less. I picked up some old LP's, in great shape, but still $5 each, but nothing else. Here is a link to the sale's promo site: https://www.estatesales.net/CO/Arvad...427?modal=true |

Mail day!
Picked up this very cool Kren Model 105.
I think(?) it falls into that nebulous category of the retail/pro bat, but I am not entirely sure. Kind of dry, I might give it a coat of lemon oil later. |

hello everyone
I enjoy these threads and i’ve been wanting to post sooner, I appreciate looking at everyone’s equipment. I would like to share one of my favorites in my collection. It’s a double dash dot, louisville slugger. The side writing is somewhat visible with the naked eye, and looks better with different camera filters. The date returned is 4/27/23. the visible writing is 38 oz Gehr.. Lou... i can’t make out the other letters because, the bat was “cleaned” at some point. it is 35-1/4 long and a beautiful dark brown. I hope y’all appreciate the pictures of the bat as much as I do, thanks for your time.

last years pick up
This one has heavy game use, I only wish I could prove Paul Waner used it. This one is a Zinn Beck Ace of The Diamond Paul Waner Type. It’s 35-3/4 long and weighs 40+oz. It is hand turned and awesome to hold. I have a lot more, and maybe one day I will authenticate them. As y’all can see, i’m kind of hoarder.

Is that an Indians gamer? I was told by a former player that their clubhouse guy was doing it for tons of guys on the team. Let's not forget the Albert incident

It’s a sox Bat... interesting thing is that it has a gold x on the knob as opposed to manny’s Silver 24... perhaps to distinguish it from his others?

Supposedly used for BP? maybe. But it's such a great looking bat, I think I'd start to suppose that it also saw some MLB action, if it were mine.

new addition
I don't have it my hands yet, but I can say that it will soon be on its way. This pro-model Lloyd Waner bat really completes my 1927 Pirates set (NL champs, FYI). Despite the fact that almost nobody thinks old Lloyd belongs in the Hall of Fame, I'm very happy to have one of his model bats.

Newbie here. I came for the baseball cards, now I'm intrigued by these old turn of the century bats...great stuff
How does one go about collecting such items? |

|

how to start?
Hi. Welcome to this side of the hobby. To my mind, collecting game used or pro model bats, caps, gloves, etc. takes the baseball collector much closer to the actual game.
If I were starting out, I would spend some time searching for bats on old Heritage Auctions, MEARS auctions, Robert Edward Auctions, Hunt Auctions sites.... they all have archives. This should give you a rough picture of what is/was out there and, in the case of very old bats, how often (rarely) they are available. If you have a favorite team, that can help you search. There a number of books, booklets, and a few articles that are useful if you become hooked.

Really great stuff everyone!
This is one of my best pieces...1955-58 Mickey Mantle Game Used Bat PSA/DNA. It has outstanding use, and was acquired directly from John Taube. (The Bat has professional restoration to the lower handle/knob). |

Really happy to add this Bill Freehan 286C7099-D3F7-4E05-9EA1-97C78F5D3306.jpg

In my opinion one of the most underrated players from 1965-75. Freehan was on 11 all-star teams and won 5 Gold Gloves along with winning the World Series in 68. He received exactly 2 votes for the HOF in 1982. |
