I believe the 67s were multi layer with the fronts glued on. That sort of wrinkling can happen if the gluing doesn't get done right.
I have a couple "paper proofs" from 67 that are probably from a scrap front sheet. |

Possible damage from the gum in the pack?

Any chance the card was in an old 9 pocket that went bad? Does it have any hint of vinyl odor?

![]() 1967 Topps - [Base] #254 - Milt Pappas [PSA*Authentic] Courtesy of COMC.com Probably why PSA forgot to get this autograph authenticated...didn't notice the ink was live... ;-) Edit: certified auto according to cert lookup site, just missing that info on the flip.

Yes, this is the only card in the '67 set that doesn't come with the facsimile auto.

Looks like woodgrain (faux woodgrain?). As if the card might have spent some time pressed face-down against a textured surface with enough weight on top of it to leave an impression.

If it was stored in high humidity in a page, that might explain it as well.

This was my other suspicion. No clue. It smells like other old cards, but that's the smell I associate with cardboard, not necessarily vinyl. So not sure. It almost looks like woodgrain texture, like I'm looking at a bat up close.
