Default August pick up thread

Can't believe it's the second and no new thread. I rarely post pick ups, as they tend to wind up in my inventory; but this one...

Scored a different 1910 Tigers Schedule with a new advertiser on it. Hard to see the team picture as it’s on red paper. Also got a Jarvis catalog which has many cool Cobb pictures inside and lastly some kind of supplement with Ty and his young son pictured in the center.

I first saw this card following Ben's net54 posts when he was completing his set and was mesmerized by it. Put it on my list but really didn't have an expectation of finding one since there are less than 10 known examples. This one came from a veteran and long time collector who bought it 25 years ago. I'm very fortunate to have been able to add this card to my collection.

Great card, Phil, he is looking right through me. I love the guys in the background too. What card is it, do you know where the picture was taken?

1910 PC796. The appeal of this card is just what you said, it has very good balance & imagery. Much like the Crawford & Collins (attached) back grounds which were taken on the same day as each other, I'm not sure where this one was taken. Perhaps some of our members can shed some light.

Ed, congrats on your very special pickup!! I've never managed to acquire a Darby Chocolates for my type collection. I'm still dreaming the day will come when the person from whom you acquired your Darby will trade me the WaJo!

Thanks Ben,
I really enjoyed talking to the Seller who had a pacemaker installed the day of the auction. Super nice guy.

Ed, I just happened to be at your table in Chicago when a guy wrote a $20,000 check for a Just So Tobacco card (I didn't see who the player was). Pretty surreal moment for me because even though I know that cards bring big prices, I never actually watched a transaction like that in person.

George Costanza : Can I say one thing to you? And I say this with an unblemished record of staunch heterosexuality.

Jerry Seinfeld : Absolutely.

George Costanza : It's fabulous.

Sunday at the National, I pitched a dealer on one price for all 200+ of his 1974 Bra-Mac photos. When he declined the full deal, I grabbed 25 singles that interested me most, focusing on HOFers and catching gear.

Some really amazing pickups this month -- too many to call out (except gotta give Tony credit for yet another great eye appeal T206). And with the national and all the auctions ending later thing month, I expect we will see a lot more eye candy.

Here is my latest pickup from Mile High last night

Thanks Scott, I'll write your name on the back so I can remember where to send it.

Ryan, another great pick up for your collection. Congratulations!

Here is a postcard a few people wanted, unfortunately for my piggy bank (my apology to any pig who is offended)

I'm not too well versed in postcards. What is this from? Fantastic photo!

Beautiful cards Casey. Love the shadow detail on the Crawford. Amazing that the DoF from large format shows even on these small cards!

Really outstanding image Leon ...

My guess is there were some individuals that specifically collect this ball club (Green's Nebraska Indians) which helped drive up the price. I have seen other colorized images for sale of this ball club.

Again ... outstanding image.

I've been trying to obtain a card from the playing days of each of the members of the first two HOF classes for less than $200 each. My standards are low. I've been stalled for awhile looking for Young and Wagner cards. I watched this postcard for awhile trying to decide if it fit my criteria, and I decided it did. 1908 Cy Young as Fox Hunter postcard. I love it.

Congrats Dean! I was underbidder, and then got caught up in other stuff last night.. totally missed the email saying you'd outbid me!

That said, happy it's found a good home, and just as well we didn't bid each other up several more increments!

Thanks Ian,

I went back and forth on whether or not to place one more bid. If you had come back over the top one more time, we most likely would be having the same conversation, but the other way around. LOL!

Took a little break from posting, I’ll post a few more as I take some pics. I’ve been working on my autographs and 1950’s collection, made a lot more Net54 hobby friends as I branched out

Thanks for posting that Cobb Historic Autograph. I have never seen that and I did some Googling and saw this company is located 20 minutes from where I live. Interesting concept. Curious how big is the card since it is a T206 and auto combined? I assume it came graded, so the company creates it and then gets them graded and redistributes the cards in packs.
