Any Rockhounds Here?
Are any of the members here rockhounds?
Background: Rose rocks are pretty rare, only being found in a narrow geographic formation here in Oklahoma. However, my acreage sits right in the middle of that narrow band. I have, quite literally, thousands of them. Now that winter is approaching, I have time on my hands and would like to finally monetize this [S]plague[/S] bounty of rose rocks. But, I have no idea the best forums for selling them. They don't seem to move on eBay, so I am hoping there is another way to get them visible. Thanks. You need to ascribe some magical healing powers to them.

They sure are cool looking. Never heard of them before you posted the question here.

Just to be clear, I'm not looking to sell them here. It has always been my assumption that people don't just collect one thing, so I am hoping someone here also collects rocks and minerals.
That said, here are few pictures my wife took for a charity auction at her work. Any direction or help would be appreciated. Last edited by carlsonjok; 11-07-2021 at 05:47 AM. |

My brother got a few in the middle east when he was there. Local kids pick them up to sell to tourists.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desert_rose_(crystal) Lots of them on etsy, https://www.etsy.com/listing/8647023...gaAj9aEALw_wcB Bigger more well defined ones are more. |

To the earlier question as to how they are formed, this site speculates that "The roses formed when barite crystals precipitated from groundwater in the pore spaces between quartz sand grains within the Garber Sandstone. The roses reflect the shapes of the barite crystals, and hence they are cataloged as minerals." |

Cool, my wife is a GG through GIA. Etsy was the first thing that came to her mind as well, but not sure how much of your monetization would get eaten up by shipping.
Maybe local schools would be interested, but probably not a for a financial exchange. How about local rock shops? How are your arts & crafts skills? Make a mirror bordered by roses? Those types of things might have social media appeal as well, and if you have thousands, helps move more of them. |

The white one looks like a golf ball. They can be found anywhere hackers and duffers play.

It would present a conundrum. My wife is the one who gathers them and, well, after 29 years of marriage we have definitely entered "cheaper to keep her" territory.
