Programs (and yearbooks/media guides) are the part of my collection that I enjoy the most. I collect mostly Orioles, Baltimore Colts, and NY Rangers items in addition to ephemera related to games that interest me.

A few years ago I tracked down a program from the first game I attended with my Dad, a 1960 doubleheader at Yankee Stadium versus the White Sox.

This one is from a 1951 exhibition game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the International League Orioles. The Dodgers barnstormed their way north from spring training. The O's were a Phillies farm club in 1951.

Dodger lineup for the game:
Don Thompson CF
Carl Furillo LF
Duke Snyder RF
Jackie Robinson 2B
Gil Hodges 1B
Roy Campanella C (the scorer listed him as 'Campy', I love that)
Pee Wee Reese 3B
Rocky Bridges SS
Preacher Roe P

What a kick it must have been for the locals to see those Dodgers stars in person.

Here's a pretty beat-up 1953 IL Orioles program, their last year as a AAA club (if you don't count some of those 1990s Orioles teams!

Lastly my oldest hockey program, from a Rangers game in 1943. I picked it up because of the cover art.

The awesome US Armed Forces content was a nice bonus.

Those of us that kept the tix or programs from our first games (or who have been able to track them down later in life) are pretty lucky!

What a great thread. Not a boring post yet, besides this one.

I particularly love that Expos no-hitter and the Mets openers...

How about Warren Spahn's 300th win. The most undervalued player in baseball.

That’s for sure. I have quite a few tickets from games I attended and publications I picked up back then but not many from those early 60s games. I keep looking for that first game stub on eBay. One day I’ll get lucky

Great thread and posts everyone. Here's a first night game scorebook / program where the original owner / attendee pasted their ticket to the front cover.

You guys are killing me! Now I TOTALLY want to get into programs too. Some of the cover artwork and/or images are just awesome!

I know this is a silly/hard question but what should I expect from a budget POV compared to cards from the same era? Trying to figure out if my scrawny card budget can afford a few cool programs.

Great thread!

Programs are often quite affordable. Generally much more affordable than tickets, and likely more affordable than vintage cards.

There are obviously exceptions, but with the history and artwork and detail (love the old ads etc), I think they are shockingly affordable.

It's a tough question but also I think it's a great question! Especially when one considers what the next big thing in collecting might be. It might as well be programs and scorecards! Personally I hope that programs and scorecards are where tickets were 5 (or so) years ago---somewhat underappreciated and affordable but then ready to take off in the not-to-distant future. I do, however, think you can get common scorecards from the 40's and 50's (featuring some but not all teams) that would be graded NM that would run about the same price as, or even less than common cards from that era in that condition (certainly less than the high series cards).

Default Amazing scorebooks!

Wow! What a great thread so far!!
I can't believe that no one has ever started a scorebook thread before...

FWIW, I have nowhere near the collection that Doug Goodman has (who does LOL?)

But, I do have a pretty extensive collection of vintage no-hitter game programs, but rather than post the obvious, I thought I would post a few of the others that I like in my collection.

Here is a scored program to HOF Sandy Koufax's NL record of 382K's in a single season in 1965. Mack Jones was K #382.

I also have a scored program to Nolan Ryan's ML single season K record of 383K's in 1973. Rich Reese of the Minnesota Twins was K #383.

A scored program to HOF Nolan Ryan's ML debut on 9/11/1966.

Finally, a scored program to Ryan's 3509K game where he passed Walter Johnson for the All Time ML strikeout record.
Tim Blackwell was 3508 which tied WaJo and Montreal's Brad Mills was K # 3509.
This scored program is signed by both Blackwell and Brad Mills. Pretty cool!
Yes, Guy Bourque, this post is for you!

Love the Stoneman 2nd no-hitter scorebook, Guy!

I may have the quantity, but I'm thinking Scott has the quality.

Very cool program Scott your collection is amazing!

One of my favorite Expos program in my collection is from Oct. 3rd 1981, after coming real close in both 1979 and 1980 The Expos clinch their 1st...and only post season berth of their history, I remember this game like it was yesterday, we were celebrating my parents 22nd wedding anniversery in a bar and watching the game on TV, when Wallace Johnson (added photo of me and Wallace 40years later) pinched hit a 2 run triple to put the Expos up for good in the top of the 7th every body went crazy in the bar. A moment I will never forget
