I think it all depends on what you have and how you expect it will grade out. Obviously the key here is that you’re planning to sell, and evaluating whether it makes sense to grade prior to sale or just sell raw. I mention it because it’s a different calculus than if you’re just planning to hold onto them for your personal collection.
If you have major stars and HOFers, particularly from early years and/or tough issues, and they will grade strongly, then often the cost to get them graded will result in a higher sales price that more than makes up for the grading cost. If you’re dealing with commons, even in good grades, then it probably doesn’t make sense unless they’re going to grade really strong. Like 8, 9, or 10, depending on the precise year and issue. If you post pictures of some of what you have, then often the group is happy to offer opinions about what is worth getting graded prior to a sale.
