I think that collectors who go after the T206 portraits probably are folks who like a consistent look (and appreciate the wonderful artwork). Not all of the portrait artwork is at the high level seen in the Big6's post showcasing Hall of Famers (some of the minor league players come to mind), but the T206 set is such a large issue we can cut it some slack.
Here is a favorite scan of mine of a group emphasizing red and orange backgrounds seen on some of the portrait cards. Brian
