Default Favorite 3-finger Brown?

Am interested in hearing others' thoughts about which Mordecai "Three-Finger" Brown card they would suggest as a "one/only" for my HOF collection.

A few criteria that I am leaning toward:

- playing day card
- ideally with the Cubs (the team I most associate him with)
- somewhat affordable (under $600, ideally)

So far, I must admit that his "Chicago on Shirt" T206 is pretty sweet - love the jersey, the white letters really pop.

I also like his Ramley card but that bad boy surely doesn't meet my 3rd criteria above! Ditto, his '14 and '15 CJ cards.

Looking forward to hearing your votes and suggestions!

thanks,
Jeff

I have always liked his E96 pose (it has great coloration and an interesting pitching pose, and showcases his Three-fingeredness)

I only have one item with Brown that I am aware of, it's the m113 of the Federal League's Chicago Whales, released in December 1915. He is front/bottom row, far right

This is the 1906 Cubs set of Grignon postcards. Mordecai is on the top right. His card reads "Always There at the Finish." IMG_1396.jpg

More than many other sets, T205's seem to "pop" in an almost 3D-like presentation...some more than others. The M.Brown T205 is one that pops. Unfortunately, it shows up better in person than a digitized photo.

Does anyone have a Plow Boy Mordecai to show off? That one definitely gets my vote.

I'm also a fan of the E98 or E93, and would consider those.

But for the "one/only" 3 finger Brown, I may have to go with the 1914 Cracker Jack, which can look amazing even in the lowest grades. It's just a great looking baseball card! (PSA 1 Cracker Jack shown is not mine, as I don't have one).

whoops, I missed the part where Jeff stated the "under $600" clause -- so the '14 CJ may be off the table. So maybe a lower grade 1915 CJ?

My favorite Three finger. Don't think you can get it for $600 though

Neat supplement, never seen it, what year is it from? The artist was quite generous with the right index finger.

think you have to go with the t206 portrait, to me his most recognizable card with "CUBS" prominently displayed

Bob "Three Finger" Brown. He was a butcher in Podunk, NY in the 1870's...

Jeff, thanks, you won't find any on ebay and probably nowhere else right now at an AH--very scarce. I might start selling some of my M101-2s but they have gotten very pricey due to scarcity and as great looking large cards/photos. PSA grades them very harshly but has not stopped surge in pricing.....

I agree T206 portrait is the most iconic, but the M116 is a nice looking option.

Here is my favorite. Just getting into pre-war and as a Cubs fan fell in love with the photo. I like that it was used for the Cracker Jack. Looks really good in the white stock that the first 20 cards of the Famous and Barr (which are M101-4s) have (at least this is my understanding from my research before bidding). I know most everyone on here knows more about this than me - but have learned a great deal from your posts and read through threads and articles on the M101-5 and M-101-4 sets before I bought this. If any of my understanding above is wrong, I welcome correction so I can learn more. Fun to post a card on this section of the board!

Default Pc796

If you are open to postcards, which you may be with your interest in the supplement, I have always felt his PC796 is fantastic! It shows Mordecai in his delivery and gives a clear view of his right hand, specifically the loss of his index finger that gave him his unique grip.
