Won some stuff on Sunday night from PWCC/Fanatics
& now they have added an additional 2.9% for using a credit card.
Over & above their 20% juice & shipping

Vaults are now mainstream in this industry. Can't think of many that vault their raw cards. It get's buyers to use these business as one stop for buying and selling their cards....It's like people don't even wanna possess their cards anymore. Many just want to turn them for a profit...it's something to see this hobby change over the years. Always interesting for sure.

This. They’re taking over a lot of the hobby.

Interested to see how this works.

I can only imagine it will be done between cards in their vault. I'd be beyond surprised if they tried to facilitate any trades outside of it.

If you want a card, you might not get a deal. If you want a deal, you might not get a card.

The only thing shocking about this news in that it took this long for PWCC to rebrand.

I had a few conversations within and outside the hobby on this news. Outside the hobby, I have heard that auction houses outside of Sotheby's are now "Dead". Obviously that is not true. Within the hobby, there is a lot of skepticism as to how targeting cards over $100k would work. Obviously that is a very competitive, relationship driven market, and often times they come at deeply reduced rates. To be honest - and this is just me speculating - if you are Sotheby's, and you are used to commissions much higher than sports cards, are you really going to sell a card at a -10% rate for $100k? And, if you are a collector, do you trust them over the typical sports auction house route? I think it will take years for Sotheby's to establish themselves, and maybe then will they be super competitive. I see this news as nothing - for now - but curious how it looks in a few years.

“It’s a strategic, long-term decision for the business that will allow us to further enhance and support the broader collector ecosystem,” a Fanatics spokesperson told SC Daily at the time. “PWCC has built a strong business with great tech, a leading marketplace and vault. Bringing them into Fanatics Collectibles will give us the opportunity to further build and strengthen on the foundation that exists today and ultimately deliver a lot of value to our fans/collectors.”

In other words: "We just weren't able to wash the doody smell off of the PWCC brand no matter what we did, so we are gonna relabel it and hope we get the stink out of it that way." I don't blame them for trying to salvage the brand for a year; when you step in dog shit you don't always have to throw away your shoes.

My loved one likes to say that stepping into dog poo brings you good luck. Perhaps that is what Fanatics thought when acquiring PWCC, and have now finally come to the realization a year later that they have to scrape off the dried up stuff for this luck to come.

Maybe the effect is limited to just those who are barefoot?

I am pretty sure she was talking about those wearing footwear. I believe folks stepping into it barefoot are not only unlucky, but plain just had it coming. It is especially unlucky if it ends up getting between the toes.

I suppose if the Venn diagram between the great unshod and the great unwashed were to overlap with this fact pattern, then it could become extra noxious in a hurry.

Using the word "ecosystem" to describe a company or its product offerings is, to me, one of the most pretentious forms of corp speak there is. Ugh. Now excuse me as I must return to reaching out to my teams and defining their workstreams and deliverables.

Time for a card. This one passed through PWCC on its way to me. And now in its glorious AA holder.
