Default National “wish list” idea…

Apologies if this has been tried before and didn’t work, but was just thinking of an idea about the National in Cleveland since I won’t be able to go.

I wonder if there is a way to organize a wish list model where Net54 attendees can keep an eye out and pass names along to sellers who have items available.

May not be logistically feasible - but open to ideas how/if this may work…

Thoughts? Suggestions?

My wish list items would be:

- Vendor Card dispensing machine
- Old timey turnstile

Jeff

Been tried numerous times.

My experience with the National is that 5 minutes inside and my mind goes into overdrive and I can’t keep track of my want list, never mind someone else’s. Whole thing is sensory overload.

Your items are unique enough that someone might actually remember them.

Ha, I get that… I only went to one myself and a friend asked me to keep an eye open for certain cards on his wish list and my mind totally lost track of it when I entered as well.

Thx for sharing the experience -

As with so many other things in life...you just have to make the effort and be there. The concept is 100% not feasible. Dealers are inundated even if they are not selling and the days are long. Keeping track of your own want list stuff while there is a full time job.

Jeff, I truly feel for you and your situation. Back in 1971, I could not attend what would have been my first convention, the huge Midwest Sports Collectors Convention in Troy, Michigan. The director of the show, Lloyd Toerpe, kindly placed my small want list on a board, along with other want lists. The one item I recall was a 1952-55 Dormand Postcard of Johnny Mize. I was obsessed with getting it.

Nobody responded to my plea for help. Many years later, I got the Mize.

Obviously, we're a much, much more wired society. We're also much more afraid of everybody. The fear factor can be real, or imagined.

Jeff, I agree with the other person who responded; your want list might stick out to other eyes. THE KEY NOW IS ARE YOU GOING TO STATE YOUR CONTACT CELL NUMBER FOR SOMEONE TO REACH YOU IF THEY FIND WHAT THEY THINK YOU WANT? YOU WANT IMAGES? FAIR ENOUGH, BUT YOU'RE GONNA HAVE TO MAKE GETTING AHOLD OF YOU USER-FRIENDLY. OTHERWISE, YOU'LL BE WAITING IN VAIN, AS I DID IN '71.

Some things don't change. You're gonna have to trust somebody some time.

I won't be at Cleveland, though I might change my mind. I hope you are successful, Jeff. --- Brian Powell

Default Front page thread of wants

We have done a thread on the front page (maybe sticky it for the National) of what members are looking for, for others to see. It's a long shot but at least it could be a central place to look. If there is interest we can do that in a few weeks or so..

ps...a little google search says we have been doing them at least 14 yrs..
