Incidental meniscal findings are common in the general population and are often found on knee MRIs. These findings are not directly related to a patient's symptoms and become more common with age. A 2008 study found that 63% of people with knee pain, aching, or stiffness had incidental meniscal findings, while 60% of people without those symptoms also had them. The study also found that 61% of people with meniscal tears had not experienced any pain, aching, or stiffness in the previous month.
