Since you did not say it had to be baseball just vintage
And appropriate since play starts tommorrow. Allan Robertson was a Scottish professional golfer who is widely regarded as the first professional golfer. He was born on September 11, 1815, in St Andrews, Scotland, and died on September 1, 1859. Robertson was known for his exceptional skill and played a crucial role in the development of golf as a professional sport. He won numerous competitions and was highly respected among his peers. After his passing… The Open Championship, also known as The Open or the British Open, was first held in 1860, after Allan Robertson's death to help determine the new “Champion Golfer of Scotland allan.jpg Last edited by Golfcollector; 07-17-2024 at 05:52 PM. |

Brian,
What set is the Groh from? I've always wanted one of those but can't remember the set name. Thanks, Andrew .

PSA didn't know. My good hobby friend and member here, John Rumirez, (hey John) shed some light on these. They are 1936 Home Run Candy cards...a little larger than the S and S game card centers, which these look like.
The bottom cards were from my previous collection, showing a Home Run Candy back.... Quote:

Andrew and Val: they are strip cards from a horizontally-oriented set of ten cards that use the artwork from a 1925 4 on 1 Exhibit set. Very, very rare; not all ten of the assumed cards have come up for sale over the 20+ years I've been looking. I have never seen a full strip. Here is an analogous boxing strip:
Cobb: Simmons: Here are some 4 on 1s using the same artwork: Anticipating the next question, I know they aren't cut down 4 on 1 cards because the stock is completely different. Thinner and with both sides having polished white paper.

No, there were no team alignments as far as anyone knows. The strips were produced in one sequence (based on the boxing) and the 4 on 1 cards all have mixed subjects; I have never see a pure baseball one. Also, based on the boxing strip and the 4 on 1s I've seen, the duos do not vary: they follow the sequence of the strips.
I can say for certain that there was a rainbow; here are light blue and green boxing strips: Odds are your four came from one strip, hence the single color. Looks like you have a rainbow to keep chasing

Here is my card that I have never been able to figure out. It's on card stock and appears that it was inserted in something where it was folded 4 times if you look closely at the back. Heck, it's even autographed by Walker Cooper. Cooper played for the NY Giants from 46-49, so I'm guessing it's during that period. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Oh Canada .
The Joe is easy compared to finding The Horse in this 1939 Goudey V-351 set. New York City teams were followed by fans up in The Great White North's highly-populated border towns via powerful NYC radio signals once the sun set .
. These are a tad smaller than the Burke 4 x 6 . The Danning is considered " difficult". |

Another toughie, Coney island Arcade (1950s): This is a bit moderner than the call but I really like it, so WTF:

The 1957 Swift Meats set amuses me as it cut up ballplayers into parts, a step just short of turning them into sausage or deli meats. Surviving assembled players like my #5 Ed Bailey are tough to come by.

Jeff, yes you did see me with my wife on 9/21. Wish you had said hello. Greetings from Salem, OR. My wife has been on a mission for several years to visit all 50 state capitol buildings and get her little booklet stamped at each. On this trip, we are doing the capitol buildings of CA, NV, OR and WA. After this trip, she will only a few left to visit.

In Honor Of Jimmy Carter Turning 100 :
.
. Here is the 1936 National Chicle Premium ( R-311-2 ) of his predecessor President Gerald R. Ford playing football at Michigan : ..these were mingled in with a large batch of 1930's vintage photos and premiums of baseball players and baseball teams ( normal R311 set cards ; I don't collect football stuff but sometimes ya just gets lucky ) .. |
