Leon, I think that would be a great idea...I also don't think it should be limited to a certain date that way we can all discuss the newest Derek Jeter/George Bush/Mickey Mantle card. I don't buy cards by the pack anymore, but I do buy a Topps factory set every year and I am working on past Topps sets with my son so it would be nice to have a place to discuss those cards and sets with people I know. Thanks. |

I'm probably the only one that would vote no. There is plenty of that it seems on the CU and Beckett boards (I would guess). Not exactly a ton of pre-war sites like this...I'd leave it...but I know I'm in the minority. |

I think this is a good idea. The natural cutoff would be 1979, right before the time the competition between Topps, Donruss and Fleer ruined the modern baseball card market. |

Dave, I would agree if it meant allowing talk of postwar cards on the main board. However, it will just be a tab on the top which should not affect anything. |

If there's a cutoff, I would say Pre-1980. Cut off in the 1950s gives too narrow an area of discussion. |

My thoughts are in line with those that set a cut-off at the point where the companys started with the insert insanity. Spare me the refractors superfractors, megafractors, superduperindustrialstrengthatomicrefractorgameuse djockillegibleautograghofsomenon-entitycombo#'dtoten horrors. |

Since most of the cards I collect are from the '30's, 40's and 50's I would like to see a tab for that era and to include the '60's. The 1970's and newer include too many different brands and sets. |

I think it's a good idea. Collectors have to start somewhere. Most collectors start as kids. Not everyone starts off their collecting with a Gehrig or Wagner card. it would be a way for the younger people to get involved, and to be able to use it as a learning tool, in their hopefully pre war future. I say cut it off around 1976 or so. Or maybe 69. Whatever, but not much later than that. I know it is blasphemy to say this publically in here, but there are some raritys beyond 1945 that people do collect, and are intersted in. |

great idea! i would imagine that the majority of the collectors who visit this site do collect at least some post war issues, with a bunch who can remember buying these as children. we've had some great threads on this board about 49 leaf, buying packs etc....the reason for the 1980 cutoff is the end of the topps monopoly. i think maybe 1969 is the best cutoff date. |

I think 1969 is a good cutoff date. If it gets too much more modern, the discussions will weaken. Does anybody really have any profound insights into the 1977 Topps set? |

I would be all for a post war sports cards forum. I might suggest 1948 to 59 and 60 to 80 with another category for more recent cards and for other sports. |

Refraction is when a substance changes the speed and direction of light, such as light going through a prism or raindrops to create a rainbow. Refractor cards have a transparent film on them that refracts the light. If you look at a refractor card in person, it has a light rainbow-like appearance. |

Very interesting comments. One thing I thought about at very first is that we could potentially attract new folks into the pre-war hobby....and the more the merrier....I need to speak with my technical guy (Brian) but I think there might be a way to accomodate both areas, post war AND other sports....and if Brian and I go too crazy we can modify/cancel whatever we need to. The good thing about running this board is that we can turn on a dime when doing stuff......This would all be related to what many of our 1000-1100 members already collect. It would give them a fairly safe place to talk about stuff....and not be censored with a bias...again, contrary to what a handful believe. I will never be able to aptly defend a perception. I can only defend historical, factual, information. |

I think it would be a great idea. A lot of card collectors collect many different things- ex., I collect vintage (pre and post-war), modern rcs, non sports cards, memorabilia, etc. Assuming the forums don't turn into 'let me spam my auctions endlessly' or useless drivel, then I think it would be of great use. |

But a post war board would be separate, and have no real effect on the main one. The memorabilia board is autonomous and the only connection it has to the card one is some of the Net54 crowd collects in both areas. |

i think it makes sense, but what if something bad happens on that board and it refracts itself to this one? i don't know what a refractor is either, but if they're anything like the name implies, i am not interested in being transported to a place where hamburgers eat people instead of the other way around. |

What about the Net54 Non-Sports Board? There not even Sports related. And if they do something refractorilly wrong, we could all get sucked into the collectors Black Hole. |

My proposal is simply to allow the proposed Post War baseball card forum (tab) to progress year-by-year as cards become 50 years old. Since this is 2007, the cutoff would be 1957... until 2008 when it would advance to 1958, etc., etc. |
