My apology Michael C, was not intending to suggest you personally are involved in this activity but was simply making a general comment....

I have been looking for T205 SPs and HOFs, so I was following both auctions and thought Id be strong at 100% of the value based on T205.org valuation & 2011 SCD Standard Catalog (which are pretty far apart). But of course they both auctions went way north. Ive seen other strong sells in SPs & variations the last few weeks also.
Made me wounder if I'm using the wrong resources to base my bids on. |

I was surprised by the prices realized as well. I started my T205 set about a year ago, and have tried to pick up the SPs whenever I could. I won my Raymond last September on eBay. It's a PSA4 and I can tell you it didn't cost what either of these cards went for. I was most surprised that they went for those priced and weren't graded. Did anybody happen to see the Joss that Joe's Vintage had on the board for a BIN of $900. It went within a very short time of being listed and I'll bet many didn't even get a look before it was gone.
Sometimes I feel sorry for myself having started collecting the set so late, but in retrospect, maybe I started just in time! |

I was also very surprised by these closing prices. I have owned 5 or 6 Raymonds and never considered it to be one of the toughest SP's. I have noticed a few pricing anomalies from time to time with the mid-level T205 SP's/variations however. I remember a year or so ago seeing a couple of A.P. Leifield cards (which I would value at about the same level as the Raymond) sell for some unbelievable prices.

I just sold my AP Leifield on eBay for $75, it was pretty beat up, it sold in less than 12 hours, In case anyone cares. I think I had it on this board for like $60 and no takers so I don't think it's all that tough...I think someone sold a Sovereign back AP for $100 recently and there was another one on eBay that went for around the same...

Patrick,
The prices you quoted I think are in line with what that card should sell for. If I recall the ones I tracked last year, there were VG/EX'ish copies going for $500+ and then suddenly, the prices returned to normal. I never did come up with a good theory for that and it didn't appear that anything shady was going on with the auctions to the best of my detection. They seemed to be legit sales on 3 or 4 different copies and then back down to Earth. |
