Best part was seeing the northern wilderness of Maine. Those radar scopes from the early days(PPIP or something) were a mess to work on. I made it through the radar part of school, but was glad to get back to comms.

I used to calibrate and fine tune my radar equipment by targeting Mt Katahdin, 70 miles due North of our base in Bangor. When the radar screen displayed the echo from that 5268 ft. high mountain, I knew the radar was performing at its peak. I had some really great times in Northern Maine. Best regards to you up there, TED Z |

Dad flew on the radar picket planes out of Hawaii in the early 50's, for the Navy. First, on PB-1's, which were B-17's with a ventral dome; later on WV-1's, which was the Navy version of the EC-121's, based on the Lockheed Electra...
Bill Hart, with the Little Rock card, was born in Louisville. Rudy Hulswitt was born in Newport. I think there could be one or two more... Kentucky had 2 'major' league teams??? Maybe so... Lousiville, and,

believe it or not, Lee's one of my favs.
I wrote a piece on him for Scott Forrest's website. I also have the Conlon photo used for the T206 you're showing. As far as what's trivial about Lee----he was a horrible hitter so I suspect he has some record there that's a shocker. At least he was a horrible hitter for the "hitless wonders"! I remember he was hitless while batting against his brother who threw a no-hitter. On a positive note, he is the only shortstop to execute two unassisted double plays in one game. Horrible hitter---great fielder. sorry, lots of answers here. all the best, ole buddy barry |
