Misc. Minnesota Twins/Vikings buttons. Notice the different photos used for the Harmon 1969 MLB pin. Both of them are difficult to track down but the one still on the card is the most difficult.

Venturing into the really ODD
Sorry Rob, need some Dodger stuff in this thread. This is something I never show anyone at my house, as they already think my collecting is weird, and this would convince them. It was well established that Koufax had arm issues, and here is a 1964 x-ray of (as Vinny put it) "The Left Arm of God".

Wow.... amazing Twins and Pirates stuff. LOVE the Clemente and Stargell Banks, and everything else, Mike!
And the mega Twins collection is off the charts... Sweeeeeet! But that Koufax X-ray will be very tough to beat, if we're looking for oddball. How did you even go about acquiring that, Rick?? Last edited by perezfan; 12-20-2019 at 01:02 PM. |

Love the x-ray. That will be tough to beat unless anyone has something like a piece of a player (hair, toenail).

I like that the keychain is "Luckee."
My wife gave me a hard time when I paid $30 for this ca. 1958 sugar packet. 20 years later, I still haven't seen another. She still gives me a hard time...

3 Twins SGAs
The Tony Oliva is from when they inducted him into the Twins HOF. I got Tony to sign it a few yeas ago. The Kirby Puckett flip bookshows his 11th inning HR in the 1991 WS. A encased card celebrating Torii Hunter winning a gold glove. |

Christmas gift from my brother in law. He just returned from Puerto Rico. I think a Clemente beach towel would qualify as pretty odd ball.

In the early 60s, Howard had opened Elston Howard Travel in my hometown of Nutley, New Jersey. It was about two blocks from my house and right where the bus dropped us after school. When it opened my best friend and I would walk by every day hoping for a glimpse of a major leaguer. One day a woman waved us into the offices and told us to come by that weekend. Sure enough Elston was there and he signed pictures for us. Gave us some of these charms as well but I lost mine. I found one on eBay while searching for something else and overpaid for it instantly. Meeting Elston Howard was probably my first in-person autograph and definitely our first off the field encounter with an athlete. Cool memory.

Here is Earl Weaver's hand written scouting report on every A.L. Player from 1986 divided by club. After the season, he gave the reports to coach Jimmy Williams for use in '87....I had Earl sign the box lid a few years before he passed.....

A page from a Royal Tailor sample book from 1914. Christy Mathewson was one of a handful of players from that book. I believe Frank Chance, Ty Cobb, Eddie Plank, Connie Mack, and John McGraw were the other baseball players featured, but there could be more.

This one is pretty strange. I believe another former member previously owned this one. In a book, "A History of Boston in 50 Artifacts," a deteriorated version of this pin was recovered in a dig. Since it has a copyright of 1912, someone (the author?) made the connection that it is tied to either the opening of Fenway Park or the 1912 World Series. Either assumption is a pretty large leap. I did a brief search for copyright info on that phrase in 1912. Not sure if my findings were for this pin, but the owner is from NY. It doesn't mean this pin isn't specifically related to the Red Sox, but it is worth noting.

Early San Francisco hand painted baseball ribbon
Ex-Dick Dobbins collection, and appeared in his classic 1994 book on Bay Area baseball history, Nuggets on the Diamond. If you are interested in Bay Area baseball history and haven't read this book, it is highly recommend. Aside from the in depth history, there is lots of eye-candy from Dick's extraordinary collection. Color plates included.

Bottle...
Great Silk !! In keeping with the S.F. theme, I thought I'd post a scarce bottle from Newman's College. It wasn't actually a college but rather what has been referred to as the first "sports bar." It hosted Cal/Stanford fans before the Big Games. This bottle is from about 1913. The even scarcer bottle says Oakland and I think it was from about 1908 before they had opened their S.F. location. There are football laces on the other side.

That ring is AWESOME. Does it fit and do you wear it? I ask because I am one of those weirdos who would 100% wear it on a semi regular basis.

It is 1 to 1.5 size too big...but good news I got in touch with the Jeweler who custom made the rings for the Schott family and I have a 230 appointment tomorrow for him to size it on the spot while I wait. He has his shop in Cincy and I live 81 miles from there. And YES I plan to wear as I am wearing it now as I type this..I have be putting these rubber sticky spacers in since I bought it and they drive me nuts cause they only last a few days or maybe a week of wear. I bought the ring to wear when I go out and not at work. It looks and feels amazing as its like 1.5 oz of gold and jewels. I did buy it to collect but I also thought life is short what good does something like this do me in a safe deposit box, and I didnt buy it to keep prestine for someone to buy 50 years after I am dead...So to answer your question I have wanted one of these rings since 1990 but always fell short at auctions (I have only seen 3 or 4 myself come up for sale) So I am wearing it!!!

More Odds and Ends
Couple more odd items to add to the group, keep them coming. Item 1, HUGE Keds canvas sneaker 2 feet long and about a foot high. The 2`nd piece comes in handy to measure, a well used wooden ruler from none other than the St Mary`s Industrial School boys print shop. Maybe the great babe Ruth used it, it`s fun to imagine !

Ushers at Saints games would attempt to retrieve foul balls that were hit into the stands. This is a coupon a fan would receive in return for surrendering a ball.

And another watch fob from 1923. This was presented to Mike Kelley in commemoration of the team winning the 1919, 1920, and 1922 pennants. His name is engraved on the back.
