Default My two pickups...

The first is a T206 Donlin Batting with Old Mill back that I bought from Dave George on the Net54 B/S/T.

T206_Donlin-Mike_Batting_OldMill.jpg

The second is a T206 Burch batting that I picked up off eBay for a mere $28. Anyone guess what kind of grade this would get if it went to SGC? SGC 30 maybe?

I'm not sure why this card graded a 1. It has a 6-7 front and a couple of small spots of paper loss on the back. I've got a green E98 Chase graded a 4 with the same great front and the same amount of paper loss on the back. Of course, it cost 3x more because of the grade. Meanwhile, when I was at the White Plains show this weekend one of the great guy dealers had a Ramly Donlin in PSA 4 with paper loss on the front of the card, just under Donlin's face -- and it was a considerable amount, not tiny dots -- and it was graded PSA 4.

Nice pickup on the Chase. The guy had a bunch of E98's in low grades but they all looked pretty nice.

That's a beautiful card, Tim. A hundred years old! I was going to take a shot at it because I thought it was the same guy as the Spartanburg Martin in the T209 Colors. A little sleuthing around at the SABR minor league data base proved me wrong although there is some resemblance. Relatives, maybe? Here is the skinny on your guy, pitcher Herbert Martin of the Greensboro Champs:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/mi...d=martin001her

(Why he has a "W" on his cap I have not been able to figure out).

Edited to add: Righteous Billiken, Steve. Watch out, they're habit forming.

David / Tim,
Agree, the B/W Martin is Herbert as referenced in your link.
The Color Martin is most likely "P." Martin:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/mi...d=martin002p--
1907-1909, SS, Spartanburg
1910, SS, Columbia, SAL, and has a T210-1 card.

I gotta get one of those Billiken's....... but I need one with the picked fence in backround !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great Pickups Jerry, I made it by the show today and was surprised by the amount of vintage that was there. The last two years I have left empty handed but today i found a nice mix, got these and a bunch of 1960's stuff.

Default E92 Seigle and W516-1-2 Dockman

If anyone wants the Seigle it is for trade! PM me or seth.yarkony@gmail.com.

Thanks for looking guys.

EDIT: Sorry about the title error. Obviously, it is an E92 Dockman & Sons Seigle and a W516-1-2 Schalk.

Hal Chase T3. Just got it back from SGC today. A little upset it didn't grade. I said "A" was okay so they didn't state a reason. I knew it was maybe a milimeter or so shorter than the other 3 T3's I have. But, It doesn't appear trimmed though. Maybe a short factory cut? looks VG-Ex+ . I don't know. It's a great looking card either way though and one of my new favorites....

I don't understand sometimes why people trimmed cards that had a pretty strong grade anyway - it looks like the top right corner of that Chase is a little "too "sharp, but that had to have been VG-EX, no matter what the missing sliver looked like. I have a trimmed CJ Cobb with basically the same thing - would have been VG-EX and someone decided to remove a sliver to sneak it by as an EX+.

Nice looking T3!
