I vividly remember those "America's Toughest Want List" ads from my early days. They really caught my attention and would lead to visions of amazing cards we all dream about. RIP Bruce.
N338-2 Getzien "in PSA 7 or higher" of course.

Google failed me when I tried to find an image of this card. Anyone have a scan?
I worked as a buyer for Wards until they folded and there was a list kept of former Wards employees who went on to bigger and better things. Musial was on the list, hence my curiosity. Condolences to the family and friends of Bruce. My card is a T204 Andy Coakley. Last edited by mattsey9; 08-06-2013 at 09:58 PM. |

THAT's FUNNY :-) I'll look again for the link for the clean one - unsure of size at moment or even if I can find it. I really would want to find one I can put with my udder stuff. Thanks for taking it the way you did - takes a real gentleman. Nice pres. BB club BTW. In the mid-1990's I wrote a couple of small articles about the fact the bodies were those of the Ginter female workers - the cigarette rolling girls - the blackstocking nine - Polka Dot Nine - call them what you want. Don Flanagan swore to me he had seen/sold some sort of contract relating to one of the teams. Frank Keetz (BB trade card cataloger/show promoter) had like 13?15? - have his note he sent from 1999(?) somewhere. He insisted on calling them trade cards. He wouldn't listen to me (as if anyone does). I tried collecting the set as well as any CDV's and cabinets of women BB players back then because I didn't really want to collect what everyone else does - just some form of it. It wasn't satisfying enough because there were so few examples of any of it. Great set on many levels and some are scarcer than others - I think because of demand for certain ones over supply - although there are very few of these to be had in the marketplace and it would have to be pure conjecture. Never heard of a complete set but who knows. I sold a single one on Feebay a few months ago........

The one that got away. Was the underbidder. Just couldn't go any higher. Later heard from the winner that he was prepared to go much higher, so I don't feel as sick as I did the night I stopped hitting "bid again."

While probably the least rare of anything in this thread, I can't find a centered crease-free well-registered clean-surfaced '33G Foxx #29 to save my life. In theory, this should be one of the easiest on my want list to find, yet it eludes me.

My condolences to those that knew Bruce personally. I can understand and appreciate that someone can make very different impressions online and in-person.
The card I've been hoping to come across to add to my collection is the T215 Red Cross Walter Johnson...last seen passing through an auction in 2008... Best regards, Steve |

It would be very happy there. But, a lot of people enjoy collecting signed T206 cards.
There are fortunately more than a few out there. I am prepared to trade my signed T206 Walter Johnson or signed T206 Cy Young for one -- those are a lot tougher to find. Mine may be 1 of 1s!

Thanks for your kind words. There is another Board member whose WaJo collection I am jealous of, because it greatly exceeds mine! Hi Dan! ![]() In fact, there are too many WaJos on my "most wanted" list to pick just one. So, I'll say a D355 Niagara Baking of any player is my most wanted card - because if I ever got one, I would get Mr. Luckey's immediate attention, plus his T205 Hindu-WaJo and more!! ![]() Wishing everyone the best in their quest, Val |
