Default Barry Sloate's auction is UP ..... NOT!!! yet

The Prince was a bit of a sympathizer, wasn't he? Well, it didn't stop Peterman from spending big bucks on a slab of rancid cake.

A funny sidenote about the JFK golf clubs is the episode appeared shortly before the Sotheby's sale. While Peterman paid a whopping 19K for them, when they sold for real Scwartzenegger spent over a million dollars!

Posted By: Jeff LichtmanJosh, not a bad idea at all. I'm going to track down Brian S to help me market the idea to the suits at Fox because, as well all have witnessed, that guy can sell ice to the Eskimos!

Let me help Barry return this thread to its original topic. Why doesn't everyone name every card they can that is in Barry's auction? That way I won't need to wait until next week to know what's in the auction.

Barry-
With respect to the controversial rookie designation:

I would guess that your consignor has at one time or another (probably on this Board) defined "rookie card" in pretty exact terms. If the consignor is who I think it is he gave it considerable thought so you might just want to use his defnition -- assuming he would be willing to provide it -- soemwhere at the top of the auction to minimize the inevitable kvetching.

BTW: great auction -- I'll be bidding!

Thanks Brian. It's no secret that the bulk of the auction is Hal's. I will be promoting it as such when we launch. Hal was helpful in giving me a lot of information on players' rookie cards, but I do agree the definition is broad. So if I call something a rookie and you disagree, just ignore it when you bid. Chris already pointed out that the Hubbell was too much of a stretch and I intend to emend the text before the auction starts. If you see any others I'm open minded (but may still use the designation).

It seems hardly anyone can agree on quite a few Vintage Rookies - especially Cobb's. However, one thing is for certain, that ugly E90-1 Jackson is not his rookie, so people should not bid on that particular lot (plus I can't go that high at the moment).

Forget the rookie debate, you have a far bigger problem it appears. You misspelled a word in your last post. Perhaps you will want to amend the post

Something I do not believe you have ever done, must be preauction jitters.

Point to Barry.

TRANSITIVE VERB:
e·mend·ed , e·mend·ing , e·mends
To improve by critical editing: emend a faulty text.

I thought it was one of those newfangled words that comes out of our electronic world. You know address became e-dress. So amend became e-mend. It's all good.

My apologies.

Funny you should bring it up because as I was typing I said to myself which is more accurate, "emend" or "amend." It was a judgment call.

Barry- I tried checking your auction today (1:15 pm CDT) but can get no where with it. Is it being "tweaked?" I get the banner and then some other graphics superimposed over it but no cards and can't navigate.

Bob- we shut it down.

It was not supposed to launch until next week and it isn't ready yet. It was creating confusion and we will wait until Tuesday or Wednesday when we are better prepared.

Maybe Hal should do that until we are up.

And to shift gears for a moment-just a reminder it was forty years ago today...

I can remember the day it came out and first heard it on the radio- and 104.3 played it completely today at noon. Still the greatest album ever.

Barry Sloate's auction is UP ... May 31 2007, 4:44 PM

"Hey Joe P.- everyone is hijacking my auction thread. Where are you when I need you to help me out? This is a pretty disrespectful bunch, don't you think?"

*
*

I tried not to get involved, and you try to get cutesie.
Those of the Tender skin should never ever try to call anyone out to a verbal debate. ... you of all people, don't pack it.

You are not quick.
You are not creative.
All you can do, and you do it well, is mimic, like a parrot.
And why is that? ... simple:
You've spent most of your life, locked up in your home in Brooklyn, watching TV almost 24/7. ... talk about a dull life.

And while we're talking about dull things.
You were the one that told us that you have a short attention span problem, and because of that problem, you find yourself getting bored while reading some threads, eventually the state of boredom is replaced with the desire to change the dullard authors thread.

Now we find out, that Barry's short attention span, is not his only problem.
In this very thread, and I've archived it just in case he tries to change it.
We find out that he also has a reading comprehension problem.

In a false sense of confidence, he's inviting people to participate in a Seinfeld trivia get together on Hals auction thread.
No Bubala baby, I never said the 31 May/1ST June.

The date that I did mention was the last day of the auction.
The 28 June.

Now, if you were to make that Seinfeld Marathon invitation to your bidders for the 28 June, then I would believe that you might have pelotas connected to your body

I didn't ask for this, I was invited to the dance by a punk.
If Diminutive Barry ever wants to play the NYC Dozens in person, I would be delighted to, but I wouldn't hold back like I have here.
Kids might be looking at this.

To Barry's AK Choir:
If you find anything above that appears to be cryptic to you.
Please let me know.
I will take you by the hand, and bring you to the thread where you can read Master Sloate's words for yourself.

I wonder if Master Sloate will invite his bidders to the Seinfeld Trivia Marathon on the 28 June?

Joe- I think it's time you and I just call a truce and stop these hostile exchanges. It's not appropriate to clutter up the board with this personal stuff and I think it's gone on long enough.

We both have to move on, and this will be the last post of yours I will respond to. Let's both of us try to contribute to the board in a positive manner, and let's keep personal animus out of this. Thank you.

Joe,

You should try harder to not get involved. This was the first thread I read today. What a bunch of crap. I don't know what personal animosity you may have towards Barry, nor do I care, but why do I have to read about it?

Martin you should try harder at not reading what you don't want to read.

Jeff, that was funny, but what makes you think that it couldn't be the other way around?

Dennis, who spilled the beans about the shiney stuff?

A sharp tongue is no indication of a keen mind.

Keep talking, someday you'll say something intelligent!

At least you are not obnoxious like so many other people - you are obnoxious in a different and worse way!

People say that you are outspoken but not by anyone that I know of.

Perhaps your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Don't get insulted, but is your job devoted to spreading ignorance?

Some people are has-beens. You are a never-was.

Some people don't hesitate to speak their minds because they have nothing to lose.

Too bad stupidity isn't painful.

As much as I don't like to lock threads I think this one has played out enough. Not much more good is coming of it. I am eagerly looking forward to the auction as I know most board members are.....I am sure it's going to be a success....
