Nice cards. Esterbrook is an interesting OJ study. He was issued cards in 1886/87, 1888, 1889, & 1890 representing three different teams. His script cards (two cards) show him with the NL New York Giants. Five new poses would surface in 1888 (now w/ Indy) with at least 3/5 poses being re-issued in 1889 with Louisville team update and another 2/5 in 1890 back to the NY Giants. Many of his variations are fairly tough, in fact the OJ book missed your variation (146-7 w/ Indy). That pose can be found in 1888, 1889, & 1890 with all three teams.

OT, but......

Twenty page 1912 Pittsburgh Pirates scorecard (vs Cincinnati). One business advertising in the piece, A Mamaux and Son, is still in business. A picture of a player in an oval in the middle of every page outside the scorecard itself. The cover (complete with staples) and the first two pages are presented here:

Default Nice scorecard

Cool piece Brian. Your reference to the business A. Mamaux & Son as still existing in business got me to wondering if Pirates pitcher Al Mamaux was a relative of that family--turns out he was the "son", or at least one of them. Didn't know if you knew that, but I'm always interested in learning about the guys in my favorite set, so thanks.

Todd,

Thank you for solving that mystery for me because I didn't know if Al Mamaux was related to the business, but did know he was born in Pittsburgh. The piece predates his stint with the Pirates.

Nice work Jeff! I'd try a soak. Don't think there's anything to lose by trying. Then I'd put all three cards in one of those big, thick screwdowns, side by side. That would be a cool way to display them imo.
