Nice collection, what a tragedy tho. Those were some nice Mantles and RC's.
Do you have PSA or SGC and the police involved at all? DO you show these off regulary to people in your surrounding areas? You never know, it could be someone just a block from you. How did you store them? in a safe or in a closet, etc.
Just some questions worth asking.

Beautiful collection, sorry to hear of the theft. Besides Chris's questions above, it would be helpful for board members to know the area of the country you are in.

What did the seller say when you notified them they were selling stolen property?

The Banks PSA 8 sold for $325 about 1/2 what the last 2 8's sold for. If this is one of your cards the rest will move fast at this discount rate.

Thanks for being on the lookout. The Ebayer has been cooperative and turning in the rest of the items back to the authorities as he had six of the cards from the 56 registry. Looks like the crooks are piecing out my set which is tearing me up inside as it will be difficult to track back my entire set.

They were skeptical which is what I expect from many sellers but after talking to authorities were cooperative and understanding as many of honest people have been.

Default I will point out here

For all the people who are "anti-grading"; the ease of ID"ing these cards in holders.

There are some real advantages to TPG and this is one of them

Very good point, Rich. It was only by the serial numbers that he'll get some (and hopefully most or all) of his cards back.

What about the eBay seller that sold some of your cards? Where did he say he got them?

I really hope I do but my goal is also to prevent mayhem from ensuing when honest buyers are buying these cards not knowing it is stolen property and to have them confiscated.

Default That E-Bay seller....

Who puts up a BIN that low , then immediately accepts an offer even lower ?...if the very-high-dollar theft occurred in Illinois and the E-Bay seller is located in Florida then that's federal.....common sense and the smell test may indicate that that Florida seller is going to be an interesting character to interview/interrogate...

...please keep us posted , eh......and listen , we all of us here feel your pain in something like this...

Keep us posted and GET THESE GUYS! You are hot on the trail already which is encouraging. Hope police are proactive as those are valuable cards and they have a person to put pressure on now in the seller.

I spoke to the seller and he seemed honest as he is cooperative and working with authorities. I believe he got such a steal of a deal that he was ok with selling them low. The old saying goes "If it is too good to be true it usually is" still stands

I hope you recover all 100% of these cards as this just makes my stomach turn. And I completely agree with the previous post that the grading certs definitely saved these cards. Keep us posted! All the best.

Sorry guys as I have been inundated with trying to piece our lives back to a sense of normalcy. The authorities are making great progress and will get these guys soon and will post more details. I have had some cards turned in but none after my threads listing my lost cards. Losing faith in the hobby and unfortunately probably won't ever see most of my collection surface ever again.

The background was I was going to work and was faced with two black guys that assaulted me for over an hour and then tied me up. They stole my car and went across the country selling my collection. My family and I live watching over out shoulders and will never get over the nightmare that came that day....

Default Lost Cards

Are you ok physically ? Did you get your car back ? Did they invade your home to get the cards, and if so, was anyone in your family harmed ? Did they take stuff besides the car and cards ? Do you think you were targeted because of the cards, or was it a random attack ? Any insurance on the cards ? Hope they get these guys. The ongoing feeling of insecurity in the day to day lives of you and your family may be the biggest loss of all.

My God, that's just terrible. Looking through your PSA registry, it's making my stomach sick. I feel just awful for you

I will keep my eyes out for any '56 or '64 Topps PSA cards that seem to be going below what they should be.

Keep an eye on Craig's List for your state, too, as well as neighboring states. If they start seeing these cards are being taken down on eBay, the crooks might look to dump chunks of the collection at once, though it pains me to say that.

Still have fractured rib but facial swelling and body bruises are healed. I was targeted and no insurance on the cards.

Update:

Wanted to provide an update. Thank you to all fellow card collectors who have lead me to some of my cards or have returned some. I am not quite sure exactly what came back as of yet but I was told that have been documented and pictures will be emailed over to me. The cards won't be back home until after investigation and who knows how long that will be but I guess the cards are in a safer place then back in my possession. Knowing how difficult it is for everyone who purchased the cards not knowing they were stolen I commend you for your honesty and integrity while deeply sympathize for your monetary loss. Once the dust settles I will reach out to everyone and return any retribution I can whether it be covering up a portion of your losses or sending out cards that I still have to help.

As far as the crooks I can tell you one of them have been caught and charged. I can't go into details as of yet but I have new utter respect for law enforcement as well as every government agency that server to protect us. They have literally bent over backwards on this case returning/picking calls late into the night, drove thousands of miles as well as put my family is special protective watch. I have a couple of them on speed dial and we chat more then with my own wife.

It is amazing how some of these cards quickly spread from Chicago to Florida in less then a weeks time frame. I was told the criminals took a road trip immediately and start selling them in portions to avoid looking suspicious. There is still so much unaccounted for but I'm optimistic they will show up and hopefully returning back to daddy. I will update and working on a website with detailed info on every stolen cards. This will come off really cliché but after just being in a state of shock for the past few weeks I finally have realized how fortunate I am to be alive, surrounded by great people and to live every day as if it might be my last..

Glad to hear it seems this may turn out somewhat better for you. Can you share with us your ideas on how they came to target you? It seems obvious that they knew you had valuable cards. I'm hoping that besides you getting your cards back and your family recovering a sense of security, that other collectors can learn how to avoid this happening to them.

I'm not sure how but the card collecting community is quite small. I think it must of been through a card show, shop or someone that knew I collecting that might of overheard something or another and then I was targeted.

Default Life Sentences Here

... unless these perps were unarmed underage juveniles they are going away for what amounts to '' Life'' in an Illinois prison.

...in all likelihood this is not the first time they've committed a serious crime , a felony ; so as more wretched details come out , the list of crimes is escalating to include armed home-invasion robbery , kidnapping , the assaults/batteries , grand theft etc. etc.---

...thanks for keeping us posted ; if they're caught alive , our tax dollars will be feeding them for at least 20-to-40....hang in there...

UPDATE:

Some really awesome people in our hobby. Steve Hart from Baseball Card Exchange turned in all the cards he purchased as well as went out and bought back one he sold on Ebay. A real class act and one of the best in the business.

Gotbaseballcards.com turned in most of my graded 1964 Topps set.

A great card shop out in Indianapolis turned in a good amount high end vintage cards including my Clemente 55 Rc with others but I haven't had time to see them yet. There have been others out there that have have shown great intergrity and honorably turned in my cards. In time when they allow me I will make sure to give them the kudos and shout out they all deserve.

Still missing most of my 56 Topps registry set as well as most of my graded Mantles. The search continues.....

The card Steve Hart bought back from Ebay for me

Wow, Steve is such a good guy. I've heard so many great things about him since returning to the hobby a few years ago. I look forward to doing business with him.

I'm glad that you've already gotten some of these cards back. When you do know what you have back, please update the list. I'm also thrilled to know that some of the creeps involved have been caught. These guys are going to rot in jail for a long, long time.

How are you doing?

This seems eerily similar to your incident. Scary stuff. http://www.sportscollectorsdaily.com...home-invasion/

Update-
It has been two months since that horrible day where I was assaulted at home and my collection stolen. I wanted to provide an update as best as I’m allowed to without interfering with the investigation. I’m physically healed but still suffer from PTSD as lack of sleep, panic attacks and constant over reactions are part of my daily life. I have recently completed the course and have CCL but I’m still constantly still looking over my shoulder. I’ve attended a few meetings to get physiological help but stopped attending for no particular reason. My family and kids keep my spirits alive and are a mountain of support.

The authorities have been have made huge leaps in the case since day one. They are still deeply engaged in this investigation and now have all my stolen cards in a special database that they use to track, trace and pursue leads. Roughly 30-40% of my collection has been returned to authorities and remains in the evidence room until the case is closed. I’m still amazed at some of the great folks we have in our hobby despite all the negativity that I see in our industry. I’m guilty of being negative in the past about sports cards but after this horrible ordeal I’ve been through it really has ignited my faith in our hobby and the good of people.

I wanted to thank the following for voluntarily offering their help with the investigation and returning a large bulk of my collection as I can never thank these folks enough. As far as we know my collection made it across at least six states and without the cooperation of each person in those states there we be in a dead lock with the investigation.

- Andy Albert of Baseball Card Exchange along with other collectors in Indianapolis.
- Steve Hart of BBCE in Schererville, IN
- Joe of gotbaseballcards.com in GA
- James Osborne from Legendary Sports Limited in OH
- Ebay Seller Megsnbacon2014 in FL
There are many others as I will release them when I can.

I have updated my Photobucket on the front page with cards still missing and would be extremely grateful if you could help turn over any information if you have seen those cards.
http://s1222.photobucket.com/user/jp...?sort=3&page=1
Thanks as I will provide another update when I can. Dan

Thanks for posting. I was thinking about you just last night and this thread. I almost bumped it but did not want to seem insensitive.
God bless with your ptsd.
Since reading this I have made plans to get a CC and a couple guns. Do you think that would have made a difference for you? Like if you had one near or in your safe they forced you to?
Thanks and prayers sent.
Chris

All the best as you recover your sense of well being from this horrific incident.

I am thankful that the perpetrators are being brought to justice and that you have not been soured on all of humanity by such a terrible experience.

Take care!
