Hi Paul and Marc,
Are you really concerned about the name on the top of the holder? Give me a break. I consider the owners of this collection to be friends of mine, and there character is beyond reproach. They are not collectors, and they wish to remain anonymous, so I would appreciate it, if you focused your attention to the cards versus the holders. Be well Brian

PS Tin Tops in SGC Holders are Real and spectacular.....

I'm certainly not implying that the Thorpe chip is a fake, by why does it have a pencil drawing look to it? It seems that every other Colgan has an old photograph look to it.???????????? Is it because it is a Tin Top? Just Curious

Skydash, don't worry you did the right thing with the name. The only other option was no identification, which would have been ok too.

Skydash,

Smart move to remain in the backround. You would have "cousins" you didn't know coming out of the woodwork.

Marc,

<<If I were the original collector, I would be outraged >>

Marc, if you were the original collector, you would be DEAD! Sorry to be morbid, but the original collector no longer has any thoughts or feelings on this subject. Putting his real name on the shell would only lead to publicity the family doesn't want.

I agree, Tim. Looks different than other Colgans I've seen - less photographic.

The reason the card looks different is due to the lack of a usable picture at the time. The picture was airbrushed using a larger picture as a model. There are actually 4 cards in this collection that look like this one!

Is this from the 1912 set or the ones distributed from 1909-11? I thought the ones from 1912 had this particular back.

Barry,

Does the following comment have anything to do with nicknames on slab labels:

"Can't think of any precedent."

Do you remember the "Mr. X" collection? Wasn't that PSA?

The Mr X collection was graded by PSA.

These two situations are a little different. Skydash wants his name left out simply for privacy reasons.

Mr. X, on the other hand, didn't want to reveal his identity, but the seller was hoping to get a premium for the cards based on the fact that they belonged to some unnamed celebrity.

after the IRS mailed a tax bill to the guy who caught the Bonds ball the very next day, who would want to give their name upon declaring a find? It's a different matter after a sale, but even then government tax collecting is a lot like stormtrooping and thuggery. Illegals don't mind sneaking in because they know they won't have to pay any taxes. If you venture into immigration forums though, you'll find a lot of legal immigrants not even considering living in the USA and even leaving here to live in countries free of tax, such as UAE, Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Bahamas, Caymans, etc.

Brian, why is it thuggery and stormtrooping to tax income? Sounds like the US Tax Code to me.

I hardly doubt the Skydash label is meant to be a tax dodge.

He will still receive a check from Mastro, with his name on it, after the sale.

I can't believe some of you are quibbling about the name on this collection. Sometimes this group amazes me even when Peter Chaos isn't involved.

Now, let's see more pictures of the "Skydash" Collection!!!

John

Skydash,
Thanks for the interesting information on the airbrushing theory. I learn something new on this board everyday. Good luck with the results of your collection selling.

Best Wishes,
Tim

P.S. I am NOT a long, lost cousin wanting a cut of your earnings!!!

John: I would love to see some more of the pictures myself. Hopefully they'll post some soon.
Tim: I'm glad you're not "another" cousin, because I've got a certain"Uncle Sam" who is always taking money out of my back pocket!
