Default T206 Magie (PSA 1) on eBay altered?

I think this is the same card. Thoughts?

Crease near the ear, through the hairline and the "P" line up but look to have been colored in.

Scans didnt quite line up so card shifts a bit on the lower corners

Of course it's the same card. Just look at the evidence.... not to mention the authenticator and the seller.

Good catch!

Chris, fantastic catch. I was bidding...definitely not anymore.

How did it get into another PSA holder after being doctored? Ridiculous.

Thanks!

The bidding has exceeded $4,500 and is clearly altered. Anytime you see that corrupt PWCC sticker, you know it's altered.

Default Psa

And once again, PSA doesn't catch it.

How about a picture of the back on the first card for comparison purposes?

As a person returning to the hobby after 20+ years away, I'm disgusted by what I've read about PSA.

I haven't read much about SGC. Is there anything out there indicating the same issues as PSA?

PWCC went full Keyser Sosay on the blemishes but that border crease just below his left shoulder clinches it for me.

They really messed the card up, should have been easy to identify @ PSA.

Did they add paper to the back of the newly graded one?

Yes Patrick... I was talking about the ink added to the front. I don't know what they did to the reverse, to produce that change. But there are higher resolution scans in the thread on Blowout, which might reveal what they did to the reverse.

Great catch Chris, thanks.

Regarding the back, I think whatever the used to clean the card may have exacerbated the paper loss that existed before the alteration

They take a card in poor shape and bleach the hell out of it, etc, to make it a 'better' poor??? What a bunch of d-bags. They probably apply fresh coats of wax to totaled cars, too.

I was going to ask how they fixed the pinhole, but this closeup shows where they added the paper. How PSA missed this one is beyond belief.

Last sold in 2019 for $5400 before premiums through REA. Hope the seller loses their ass. No one should be rewarded for this travesty.

JonnyRingo is a GREAT handle!

I'm assuming from "Tombstone" Fame?

Probably my all time favorite movie (I drive my wife crazy with it - everytime they run it again)

Chris good catch.

I guess I'm going to be the only one to say it, but I think whoever did the work on this card actually did a pretty good job. PSA definitely still should have detected it. But strictly from an aesthetic standpoint, I think the card looks nicer now.

And the sad thing is the potential buyer perhaps, or more likely than not, knowing the card has been improved to a much sweeter 1 than previously, now has the new standard for a 1 and when they go to sell, a profit is locked in.

In all my years in the hobby, I've never seen such corruption as is the case today. Comparatively speaking, before the advent of TPG'ers there was peace in the valley and then along came Mastro and his band of merry men. Everything seems to have gone pear shaped.

I (for one) emailed them directly with an unfriendly letter. I'm sure a few others probably did the same. Until Law Enforcement decides to crack down on these purveyors of fraud, we must do what we can to stop this.

Still not a fan of theirs, but I will say that PWCC is quicker to act than Heritage. That's about as close to a positive statement as I can make about them.

I've heard it said that "hell" is personalized to the individual. Whatever would most torment their soul is the agony to which they'll be subjected.

Hopefully, "card doctor hell" is a endless process of:
  • repeatedly submitting cards
  • experiencing longer turnaround times with each sub
  • always getting an Auth grade.

PWCC obviously did not submit the card to be graded since it was in its current holder when SCP sold it in 2019. Assuming the card was consigned to them, they have removed it from Ebay. What else could they do? Obviously they know the scrutiny they are under and perhaps that is the reason for the quick hook but you are correct, the major auction houses would not have pulled it and it will resurface in one of them soon. They place liability squarely on the grading company and wash their hands of any issues. They cover their own interest.

And if PSA OK's that one, the legitimacy of PSA and its new ownership is dead.

And if they take it off the market the new owners and PSA will have redeemed themselves?

There have been so many of these presented to them--that scream having been altered--so would one more of those really hurt them? I think they could leave it in the holder and it would have no further impact on their rep. People will post how horrible they are and then the same guys bid in the next big auction and buy a 200K card in a PSA slab or spend 600K on several and then do it again a month later. Those guys are my favorite.

Well maybe I overstated it a bit but I like hyperbole sometimes.

Oh I know. I am just commenting on their Teflon nature which is all due to the PSA collectors. Just when ya think PSA cannot possibly take that position, they do and it does not adversely impact them. Collectors complain but go right back to supporting the company and they sorta have to since they are all in on PSA holders.

Not only can they thrive amid a massive scandal, they can basically shut down their operations and not be affected.

Comes as no surprise to me. Just look at the registry and that speaks nothing of those who have material amounts tied up in PSA holders who do not have registered collections. I would say they can do whatever they want and they will be forgiven.
