Default How was the Chantilly show?

Posted By: Joe Pelaez

Just curious.
Alan, Mark, Ken, Macbruce and the others that were at the show?

It was fun doing a McChicken while talking cards with Mark and Alan before the show.
It was great doing a chalupa after the show on Saturday with Larrie Dean, while discussing everything from cards to Machu Pichu.

As for the show, I picked up a nice looking T206 STL Shaw $20.00, for my beater set. ... down to nine on that one.
Also a very decent T212 1911 Mohler for $20.00

Best of all, I picked up 4 presentable T206 beaters for $10.00 each.
Those I'll give to kids at a ball game.
You gotta start being a card sicko somewhere.

How did you guys do?
Joe

I wasn't all that impressed with the selection and prices of most of the T206s at the show. I picked up about 8 cards from Cy including a real nice Persons and Bernhard.

Not much of a haul for myself. I picked up an e90-1 Clarke from Cy and a Fan Craze Chance from another dealer. I found it to be a typical show for Chantilly with four or five prewar dealers. Don Johnson had his usual assortment of nice N, T and E cards but I was able to restrain myself at his table this time. Nevertheless I had a good time talking with Cy, Tom B, Alan, Ken, etc..

Hi,

I really enjoyed the Chantilly Show this time. I want to thank everyone who stopped by my table. The weekend is a long, tedious event. Having some good people stop by really makes the whole experience worthwhile.

It was fun talking old cards right there in the front of the hall. I know that the vintage selection isn't what it is at Reading or the National but it was nice to see some people that truly enjoy the older cards.

And I even bought an autograph at the show myself. A few years ago Kenny Stabler appeared at Chantilly to sign and he was wonderful to talk with. So at this show I went up to tell him how much I appreciated the conversation the two of us had back then, and he was even more gracious. I figured I should buy his rookie card and get it signed. (I have a few autographed rookie cards.) So I bought a nice Near Mint rookie card and went up at the end of his signing time and had him autograph it for me to remember the event. If you ever get a chance to meet Stabler, do so. He is great to talk with.

Hopefully, I will see all of you at the next Chantilly show. The next one takes place July 6,7,8.

Sincerely,

Cy

It was a real pleasure meeting with Joe & Mark before the show & equally pleasure meeting Cy, Bruce, Jay, and the other guys...

As Cy said, this show is not as good as the reading show for vintage material, but (as I've always said in the past) you go to these shows to meet other collectors, dealers, auction houses, etc,...

Cy had some really nice condition vintage cards. Now, I did pick up a 1955 Topps All-American Benny Friedman football card from him.

Alan

I bought a few cards from the small number of prewar dealers. My most notable pickup were 5 T210s from various series.
