Default SLASHED: Lot of 7x 1888-89 Varney Studio Carleton College (MN) Baseball Cabinets

Up for sale is an interesting collection of 7x Carleton College baseball team player cabinet photos from c1888-1889. They were issued by the Chicago-based Varney Studio. Carleton College is still a leading Liberal Arts college located in Northfield, MN.

The cabinet cards each measure 4-1/4" x 6-1/2" and retain great contrast and clarity. A few of them have some paper loss on the fronts and all of them have some minor back damage on the otherwise blank backs.

Asking $1,400 $1,200 $1,050 shipped for the lot.

If interested, please PM me or email me at h2oya311@yahoo.com.

Thanks! Derek

There was also a Carleton College in Farmington, Missouri, in the late 1800's and early 1900's; Barney Pelty played baseball there in the '90's. Is it certain that the Varney images depict students at the Minnesota institution?

Nothing definitive to suggest that this was the Carleton College in MN other than the relative proximity to Chicago, although I must admit I thought the distance would be shorter than 400 miles. The person who sold these to me mentioned the MN institution and I had no reason to think otherwise.

So, I suppose this could be the team from Missouri. Ironically, Farmington, MO comes in a shade under 400 miles to Chicago.

Admittedly, I’ve never spent much time researching these.
