Default Auto baseball age?

Posted By: joe

What is the age of this baseball? Red and white stitching.

League Special.

Is it worth getting authenticating?

Partial Mickey Cochrane, Chet Hajbuk, Bennie McCoy, Ernie Andres, Don Padgett,

Joe Grace, Jim Reninger, Jim "Westy ?, and some others I can't read.

Sorry, that's the best picture I could get. I have trouble with baseballs.

Thanks joe

The ball looks to be 1920's-30's. If Cochrane is the best signature and he's not super strong, I would not spend the money to authenticate. It's a nice looking ball, but don't think the authentication is necessary.

Thanks Matt, the Cochrane is not that good, partial name.

most likely 1930s - most balls from the 1920s had smaller stitching

. . . and say that this ball is from the early/mid 1940's.

Specifically, from 1942-45, and the Great Lakes Naval Team Bluejackets. I know that Mickey Cochrane managed the team, and that Bennie McCoy played for the team. Given the break in playing years for some of the other players listed, I suspect they were putting in W.W.II service time. Possibly with the Bluejackets. Maybe one of the other Net54 Old Cardboard members has access to a complete roster for each (all) of those years. Or, perhaps Bennie McCoy himself might be able to shed some light on his teammates from this team.

It's a very neat item, Joe. And I must tell you, from one Detroit collector to another, how much I enjoy the many wonderful items you've offer through auction, and through generousity.

Since I'm feeling the love, many thanks to all those other Detroit collectors who have shared their finds and treasures. Each one just adds to my enjoyment of this wonderful hobby.

Vincent, thanks for the information. If you bought anything from me I hope you are enjoying the Detroit items. I don't keep very good records so not sure what you might have purchased for your collection.

Hi, I just came across this post, and unfortunately, the photo is not coming through. However, I do collect WWII team signed baseballs, and would love the opportunity to buy this one if it's for sale.
