Good morning and happy snow day on the east coast.
Has anyone bought the new Dick Perez Immortals book? It is quite expensive ($199 + shipping) and only available through his website. I couldn't even find a copy selling on eBay. If you have bought it, what do you think? "It is an art retrospective by the artist whose name has been attached to the Hall of Famers for three decades, and was the official artist of the Baseball Hall of Fame for over 20 years. # Limited to 5,000 copies, when they're gone they're gone. # Over 1,400 paintings, carefully researched, that depict the evolution of uniforms, equipment and ball parks. # The beauty and ballet of the game leap from the pages with vivid realism. # Player portraits from the famed Perez-Steele Hall of Fame Art Post Cards. # Player biographies, including lifetime statistics # Historical narratives of each of the baseball eras: Origins, Deadball, Golden Age, Depression, War and Postwar, Expansion, and Modern. # Special Art Editions also available, click here for details. # Printed in the U.S.A." ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I have received an in mail solicitation for the book several times I assume due to the fact that I am/was a P-S Postcard customer. I took a pass on the book. He has made quite a gig out of painting the same guys over and over.

I got it as a gift from a friend over the holidays. I had no idea it was that expensive, but I can see why- it's well bound in leather, the print quality is great, and it's a pretty impressive book.
The info is mostly old news for most of us, but I still learned a lot. The artwork is typical Dick Perez, and if you have any of the Perez Steele sets you've seen it already, but it's great to have all in one place. |

I'm a long time collector of Perez Steele Post Cards and I got the book for Christmas from my mom (yeah, I have a great mom). It's a beautiful book and, if you appreciate Dick's work, it's a must own. My biggest reason for asking "Santa-mom" for it was that there are the "missing" Perez Steele paintings included in the book for guys elected after Frank Steele died and they ceased producing new post card series. The book weighs about 15 pounds (guestimate on my part) and is really nicely done.
As a side note, I have been thinking about how they could re-start the Perez Steele post card series...I'm gonna start a new thread and would love some feedback...

Seems like we have multiple threads promoting the Perez stuff.
When I first saw the Perez Steele cards I did not care for them. That's not changed. Someone tried to sell me some, then trade some for a card at a show. No go. I did eventually own a few, they were loose in a lot of a bunch of different cards, where I was after one certain card in a lot I bought. I gave the Perez Steele cards away. Lately I've tried to not blah other folks' bling. But golly, there's quite a distance between the P-S stuff and a good old Goudey card, or a worn T206. When I first saw Tattoo Orbit cards, W514's, and W515's, I didn't care for them. I eventually developed some appreciation for them. Maybe the day will come that I like the P-S cards... But I doubt it. And as much of a bibliophile as I am, I wouldn't pay the postage to get that book free. |
