Been wanting a ‘52 Gordie for a while as my earliest Howe card. Wanted to keep it low grade and not too spendy and finally found this guy without any creasing or wrinkles like I was seeing in just about everything else in my desired price range. Was really happy with the surface and image on this one.

That is a beauty. Congratulations. Still kicking myself for not buying a 52 Parkhurst Sawchuk from my local shop for a great price. Your patience paid off nicely on this one.

Thanks. That Sawchuk is a great card, really impressive detail in the image.

Here's my boy, Walter White (and Black):

Don't let the cute fool you; he's racked up over a dozen rat kills that I know of, plus a baby raccoon. He's a big, heavy pounce hunter; should have named him "Thud" because when he hits the floor it is with a thud. He's so strong that when he head-butts me he can knock me off balance if I am not paying attention. It gets pretty annoying when I am asleep in my recliner.

But I digress...

That is a really nice Parkie Howe. I always admire a nice #9. I may have to look for one of those.

Here are some recent additions to my 1923-24 Paulins set. I’m over half way on this one now. All of these are stamp cancelled but I do have quite a few that are hole punched.

Not a lot of purchases lately but I did win a couple of these 2 guys who I believe are going to be strong players and for years to come.

Thanks, Anthony.

I'm not sure I'd follow my lead though as I think I'm wrong more than I'm right when it comes to picking winners?

I like the 2 guys above as they have both done exceptionally well, especially Wyatt Johnston, but as we all know, 1 season does not dictate a players true value/stardom.
The other 2 guys I loaded up on in Philip Tomasino and Ty Dellandrea are, unfortunately, not working out so well for me. Phil just sat 3 games in a row and Ty 2. Phil made it back for his last game the other night but only received 7 minutes of ice time and got no points. Ty made it back too but a similar story follows him.

I chose those guys based on my heart and not my head and I'm paying the price for that. Thankfully most cards were on the cheap (biggest reason for getting in early) but all toll, it is still a chunk of change as I loaded up pretty good on both of them. Both are young yet but, unfortunately, unless things change drastically, I think they will be sent down then possibly be out/put on waivers as both have been given significant time/chances now to prove themselves, imo.

Like you and your sharp looking cards above, sometimes I just can't help myself either.

I’ll call this an Olympics card for thread purposes. Newest addition to my Sport Kings collection, now at 7 cards total.

I usually try to avoid paper loss affecting the text narrative on back, but this card can get spendy if it’s too nice. So I compromised slightly on the back since the front displays really well and the price was pretty good.

Killer lineup there, Scott.

This is a set of Maserati corporate postcards from Italy, Alberto Ponno artist:

Several years ago I wanted a Maserati so badly. I went to the LA Auto Show and got to sit in one...and I didn't fit. Can't sit in the damn thing over about 6' and I'm 6'4". Not that I had $150K to spend anyway. So i got the cards instead.

Default Hat Tricks Jerseys

Been focused on collecting hockey with my daughter for the last two years and now my son is getting into it as well...

We have a local independent FPHL team here called the Danbury Hat tricks. Really good entertainment, with that old school hockey flare. Both of my kids have an affinity for the Teams enforcer Daniel "Diamond Hands" Amesbury, who has really built a cult following her in ct, and captured some serious attention for his battles on and off the ice...

Real happy to add a couple of Danimal's 2021-22 game used jerseys to the collection. My kids wear them to every game he attends!

My Favorite pickup of 2023 is this 1902 Stanley cup "challange cup program" I had never seen a program from the challange era. And I have been collecting for a bit. I have a 1926 and earliest I had seen previously was a 1920. Now I have gone down this same road before. Collecting items so scarce that no one collects them. Definitely not a money maker but cannot help it it is just how I roll. If you never read up on early Stanley cup Challanges read up on 1902. Manitoba vs Toronto with Manitoba winning 2 games to nil. Manitoba would lose the cup in March of 1902 to Montreal.

Nice pick ups, Winston.

That Esposito RC looks to be in great shape as does the Bossy RC, which is extremely tough to find in great shape centered like your copy appears to be.

Your Dryden RC and The Stanley Cup right beside it also look in great shape as do many of your other cards as well.

Hey Jonathan, all I can say looking at your early Stanley Cup program is..... WOW! May I ask where you acquired it???

I'm from Winnipeg, and I collected antique hockey items for a couple decades (I sold my collection at Classic Auctions a few months back - you could see my collection by going to their website, select past auctions, and search with "Brent Sobie"). I should also clarify that the 1902 challenge featured the Winnipeg Victorias, and with the program for games in Winnipeg, this item is my all-time holy grail. I handled a copy of this exact program many years ago that is housed in the Mantitoba archives. I was told it was donated by a Winnipeg family in the early-1960s.

Again, congrats on the purchase, and IF YOU EVER WANT TO SELL..... PLEASE OFFER IT TO ME FIRST. lol Thanks!

Just a couple more of Brock Faber I decided to grab as he is now in the running/touted to be the possible Calder winner.
Currently in 2nd place points wise to Bedard, but because he is a defenseman who has logged over 30 minutes a game sometimes for the Wild, and still does OK on the points front, many are giving him a serious look.
Great stories written about him, and especially his love for his handicapped/mentally challenged sister. Seems like a great kid that comes from a great family and, not going to lie, is also a part of the reason why I like him so much as well.

Today at our local show I bought this low grade Gordie Howe on the right. I knew it was a 1969-70 OPC but it didn't have a number on it. What the heck I paid the asking price of $5 and when I got home searched Ebay to see what it was. Well I discovered this card comes both numbered (#193) and unnumbered and when I checked the cards in my box discovered I already had the numbered version

That's a very nice card, Peter. Is that an Italian language card or one of the English language ones that PSA labels as Italian?

English but it says printed in Italy on the back.

The confusion is that PSA designates the other language versions on the flips, like this Finnish one, but not English.

I suppose they list Italy because the cards for the USA were printed either in Italy or Japan.

It is confusing, but that said, for a multisport and miscellaneous sport RC collector, it's an amazing issue/series of issues.

That's for sure. Besides Gretzky, Johnson and Bird, there are also RCs of Sugar Ray Leonard and Larry Holmes.

Just crazy, imo, what these new Connor Bedard cards are currently going for. Hyped to the hill is an understatement, and I'm afraid many will be regretting their decision within a year or less?
Each to their own, and I'm certainly not wishing upon them what I just wrote as maybe I'm the one who is wrong, but I think the odds are in my favor?

So, I stopped by my LCS yesterday morning to pick up some card savers, and I have never seen it so crowded. There were guys all over the place, some waiting in line, others just hanging out. I had no idea what was going on. The young man at the counter (who is usually the only one in the store when I go in) said that Series Two was due to be delivered in 30 minutes, and it was a chance to get Our Guy. Everybody was shelling out $650 for two boxes. I figured since I was there I should get mine too.

It's pretty nuts!
Some of his cards are already in Connor McDavid territory and he hasn't won a single thing yet.
Not doubting his talent/skill at all because he's crazy good, but I don't recall ever seeing anything like this before for a rookie?

Hope you get some great hits, Al, if you're cracking your box open.

Irv,

I'm with you 100%. They better find this kid a Semenko or McSorley very soon or his frame will not live up to the abuse of big boy hockey. Let's face it, McDavid has a much larger frame and can take more punishment. I just don't see this kid as the next big superstar. I could be wrong.

He's a solid kid but is pretty short. The NHL, which they seem to do quite often, or they measure with skates on, has him as 5'10" but his real height is 5'8".

Imo, like you said, they need someone much tougher/bigger than Foligno. Corey Perry was there for a reason, but of course is now gone, so hopefully they have someone in mind in the near future/off season to fill that role.

Personally, right now, I feel some are laying off, being kind to him as they don't want to be the one to be known as the one who put the NHL's budding superstar out, especially in his rookie year.

We'll see how he makes out, and I wish him all the best, but I can't help but think, like you, that he isn't going to be the next big superstar without at least an entourage of bodyguards who can actually play with him.

Picked up some modern cards as well as part set of the 1991-92 Future Trend Team Canada autos that were issued by The Bay as a box set.
They are the same as what came in the packs but do not have the swirl on the surface. The Bay box set has the same amount of auto as what
the pack pulled set had(36 cards) But some players did not sign for The Bay. SO there are 12 players that did not make it into the Bay sets. But
many players signed multiple cards Plus there are two autos that were never in packs. John Ferguson and the trainer Joe Sgro.As you can see
by the scans.Someone tried to make a complete set of in person autos. They are all the ones signed in blue ink.The gold ink are from the Bay
box set.Thanks.

It was a 101 base card set. With the team members signing 36 cards. The cards in the packs had a swirl on them so they are impossible to counterfeit.
It is the only pack pull Dryden auto that has ever been released in any product.Mind you he has had cut autos in many products. That is why it is
so expensive to buy if you can even find a copy.So shortly after the release of the product The Bay decided they would cash in on the excitement and
pulled as many of the players together that would agree to a signing. Then they released those autos in a box set. But this box set was missing 12 of the
big stars in the series. Even though the box set does have the same amount of autos.Just that some players had 2,3 and even 4 autos in the set.

They also did a set for the 1976 series.Way less autos in that set. But Bobby Orr played in the 1976 series so he has an auto in that set. Thanks.
